sorin popovici -> Conde on eBay uk, legit? (Sep. 17 2024 11:41:36)

Hi,

I was looking at this ad
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/204982393071?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=cxempu4etmm&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=NX4aoCtzTue&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Hoping there is so room to negotiate with the guy, but to be honest not sure why this does not have a signature on the label.

Does anyone knows if this is legit and if it is just curious what is an estimate for a gravina from that period?

Thanks,
Sorin

Probably a second grade guitar , hence no signature. For same price, you might find better conde options

Absolutely not. It is the top line model, with media Luna and galvanized tie block. Looks totally legit and in good shape. The unsigned label doesn’t mean anything since nobody admits who makes condes anyway. [:D]

I would not buy this guitar even for half the price. Buy a Jerónimo Pérez[;)]

Did play it, meet with the guy in my lunch break.

Guitar played very very good, was setup really low.
The sound, can’t be sure. I could only change one string that was missing.
Had a lot of dings though, some wear below the golpeador

The guy said he was offered 4K euro or gbp, did not catch the detail.

Not sure how much is actually worth, I mean taking into consideration has some battle scars, that signature thing.
Obviously, would want to get it cheaply but really after a fair evaluation

The unsigned label is authentic, but the guitar has definitely been refinished. I’ve come across unsigned Condes from this era, and while they’re high-quality, they can be difficult to resell.

Echi -> RE: Conde on eBay uk, legit? (Sep. 18 2024 22:40:50)

I agree it was refinished with shellac from his original orange nitro. Probably the guitar didn’t loose too much though.
Lack of signature means almost nothing for these guitars as it was quite common for guitars sold to professionals.
I would pay from 3000 to 4000 £.
Don’t know if it is better a new Jeronimo or that Conde.
It depends on the Conde really. Some old ones are truly exceptional guitars, while other ones are just good guitars.

No offense, but you can’t compare old condes, even the low end ones to the Perez ….at least the ones I have tried and heard live. The difference in the trebles is enormous. I don’t want to talk negative unless I had more experience with these new guitars and experimented with strings etc. I at first thought it was just the way people were playing, not hooking the up strokes strongly. But I sense a miss balance.

Absolutely agree.

Old condes have a distinctive treble that sounded hollow. I think these new luthier’s guitars sounds too sharp. The treble is prominent, and the sound of wood is weak. I feel a little tense when I play my Jesus de Jimenez sometimes because the treble is obvious.

If you're still in the market to buy a guitar in London, an old friend is selling his Hermanos Sachis Lopez 'Bulerias' model.
