rafapak -> what is this technique called ? (Jun. 10 2024 23:31:15)

hi guys

I remember the other day I watched flamenco guitar video on youtube. They discussed technique that involves thumb hitting guitar wood and at the same time thumb strumming strings. You have impression that you hear both at the same time-hitting wood and strumming strings. Do you guys have any idea what this technique is called ? I think you hit wood first and next you somehow strum strings but it happens so fast that you think both happen at the same time

Above or below the strings? Thumb downstroke or upstroke?

For example in rumba on 2&, upstroke of the thumb. You can add back of thumbnail hitting the soundboard just below the strings before the strings. Not sure if this has a name.
When it's an i or m downstroke hitting soundboard above the strings before hitting the strings it's called 'capirote'.

I thought you might have meant this. It's not thumb, it's a finger, as Orson said.
