Frhout (A UK based view) just lately I have noted a number of airlines bringing in ‘invisible pricing’ Both Flybe and Ryanair now charge for each item of luggage. There is also a tendency for these cheap airlines to use airport staff (and not their own) so no good appealing – rules are rules. I have found that British Airways will frequently offer a free valet service. Basically you take your guitar to the plane so you know its last in, it goes into the hold on top, and when you arrive you get it at the bottom of the steps. I travel with not only a guitar from time to time but also very expensive computer kit. The only answer I think is bullet prove, foam packed and locked metal boxes – and be willing to pay per box (I’m sure that’s what Paco does). I must say Easyjet, who soon I think will replace Iberia in Spain are great – they always treat my guitar like snowboards, skis or a windsurfer (which should mean top loaded) - but of course they still have no control over the shotput luggage handlers. But that said I’ve never had a damaged guitar after a flight, wish I could say the same about the computers [:D]
