hi guys,

im once again gona put this limitless resource of help to use on this forum!!

im going to start up a webpage sonn, despite my hesitations at first, as i think it will be very useful for those wanting bookings and more information etc. i would appreciate all advice and comments.

If you want a 'read only' website (i.e. not forums, etc), sign up for a google pages test account.

I got set up a few days ago and played around with it. Its really easy to whip up a quick site (which google hosts) and you can edit it anytime, anywhere from a browser. Even though my day to day job is as a software architect and developer, I think this is a pretty slick app for anyone wanting to create and maintain a litte site. Worth a look anyway.

cool thanks guys. ive managd to get hold my mate who designs web pages and he's pretty good. ill get him t design it, what things exactly are best to put on ya think?

Luke just a few thoughts but using your imagination (so its different) and visiting hundreds of sites looking for ideas you like is best.

- sign up for one of the free visitor stats. ( eg. http://www.amazingcounters.com/?ref=gad022) Good to know how many visitors you get.
- put date and time on the page. It sort of looks like its active even if you haven't touched it for ages.
- swap links with other sites so that the spiders can get to you if you want people to find it via search engines
- test it with different browsers, they don't all render the same (IE & Netscape as a min).
- put lots of flamenco on it
- keep it uptodate
- give away free beer
and then don't forget to tell us where it is [:D]

ps did you go to Lewes??

p s couldnt go in the end was gona go today but didnt have anyway of getting there. i will do at some point this week or beginning of next week! i have to!![:D]

I like websites that are easy to navigate, and that do not use those funky graphics where the background is either tiled or it a continuous wallpaper that doesn't move with the foreground! [>:]

I would also recommend a guestbook. This way, people that visit your site can give you feedback not only about the website, but also about any of your live performances they have attended. You can always weed out the negative comments, but I'm sure you won't have any![;)] But yea, people interested in booking you might be more motivated to do so if they read a few favorable reviews in your guest book.

Pictures, lots and lots of pictures - for us more simple minded. Audio would be good too, but not as background for the actual website. Check out Miguelito's website over at DCFlamenco. It's more of a blog, but man, I dig the pictures.

Before getting down to audio details it is a good idea to write a list of who might visit your site and then another list of who you want to visit your site and where they might be.

e.g.

flamenco professional guitarists (UK) - possibly - desired
flamenco professional guitarists (worldwide) - unlikely - couldn't care
flamenco hobbyists (UK) - hopefully - my main audience
flamenco hobbyists (worldwide) .......
people looking to hire a flamenco (Uk) - YES PLEASE - Oh I hope so
....

Try and create a picture of who, why, where - then ask yourself what they might be looking for, how they would know that you exist , how they would find you, how can you get to them??

Do you want them to visit regularly and if so why should they?

Your designer will need this input if he is to create something relevant.

It doesn't have to be accurate and can be reviewed every now and again. But such an exercise concentrates the mind and keeps you on course. Remember the site is for your target audience - what you and casual users like is irrelevant.

Once you've got that you can decide if sam for example is a target and whether his views are valid for your site. Personally I'm with him all the way [:D]

Enjoy the experience - one day it could be a career if being a famous flamenco doesn't work out[:D]
