I was curious about those of you that have experience using loops as a backing track. Are there any more resources besides the Solo Compas series? Is there anyone here that makes their own, and if so, which program/hardware are you using?

Almost every single flamenco cd is a resource samwise, almost every buleria starts with just palmas or cajon, u can always sample that.

Everything i hear without cante or guitar, i sample, for practice.

Any program that allows you to load a wave file and cut it or loop it (eg. cool edit pro) will do the job.

i do what Florian does. sample intros or diffrent breaks and so on.

On my new buleria it´s not a sampled loop but sapled palmas and sapled bass of the cajon and sampled treble strok of the cajon. then i´ve put it as sonds using midi and sampletank

Hey guys, thanks for your replies. I don' t know why I have such a disregard for the obvious, but you're right Florian, I can see how you could sample a couple of measures then just repeat it.

I'll have a look at CoolEdit and SampleTank, thanks for the suggestion. Once a couple of measures have been sampled and looped, is it possible to change the tempo without destroying the sound?

yes u can slow it down and speed it up a litlle bit but the more u change the speed the further away the sound will move from the original and might not sound as good.

if u have to change it very litlle.

This little program does a wonderful job of slowing things down or speeding things up and has an adjustable pitch control so the music will always be in the correct key (or you can even change keys), plus it will do whatever looping you want. It works great, believe me I use it a lot! It can play .wav, MP3 and 4, .wma and more file types.

Gecko, i find all those programs that slow things down change the pitch.

even tho they claim not to, and its not so obvious in trying to work out a musical piece but trying to use a slowed down loop on a track its always obvious.

I use Slow downer and transcribe, but if i can i prefer not to change the speed of the loop at all that way u preserve the perfect studio sound.

I have used Slow Downer to slow things down as much as say 70% and still can keep the pitch correct. However, as you say, it does not sound exactly like it was recorded in a studio at that tempo. The slower you go the more "slurred" the sounds becomes, but I don't notice this unless I slow things down by say 35-40% or more. Would I use it for a performance in front of an audience who have paid to hear me? NO! Would I use it for practice or playing in front of friends on the back patio? YES, depending on how much they were drinking. [;)]

I didn't think samwise was going to use it for paid performance, but in retrospect he didn't say. Besides West Texans won't notice the difference over the sound of the wind anyway. Right Sam? [:D]

The low pressure system that produced all those crazy tornados in Tenn. et al the other day, was like a vacuum that sucked the winds from the southwest (hot dry air) at around low 70(s)MPH. I don't remember exactly, I just remember thinking "wow, that's just a few miles/hour slower than a category 1 hurricane." [8|]
