Any love for acoustic steel string here? If so, your favorite guitar makers, tonewoods etc?

I'm a sucker for that Martin spruce/mahogany sound, and flamenco technique really adds to my fingerstyle playing.

Of course I do. No fav guitar makers though.

Flamenco technique on steel string? I hope not. After I mastered flamenco technique I'll never play fingerstyle on steel string again. Different string spacing, steel strings etc. and overall a different feel. I dont want to confuse my right hand. So I'll play steel string guitar only with a pick.

It would be interesting ro read foro members opinion on this matter.

no, not from me. don't like those nasty cheesewire strings and metallic twangy sound...[&:]

also my left hand gets claustrophobia with the narrow string spacing [:D]

there are plenty who play both steel and nylon. Ralph Towner plays jazz/fusion on classical guitar and 12 string, Sean Shibe plays classical and electric, and there is a flamenco guy, I think from Finland, but based in Madrid, Raul Mannola, he plays [steel] 12 string and [nylon] flamenco guitars.

It's really not too confusing to change it up. I like it when all my guitars feel and sound a bit different and I have no problems adapting. I do find it cute when acoustic players complain that a 44.5 mm nut is too wide or a 640 mm scale length is too long.

I have just finished building a steel-string based on a Spanish-style body, sounds very nice.

My friend Mario Ceasar Oretea from Boliva builds really unique designs, all tend to have a good flamenco feel to them, and excellent live sound electronics. Tonino uses a couple. Last year he made a steel string that was hilariously fun to play, even with flamenco techniques, and of course ends up with a unique sound. I had a video playing that I never posted I will try to dig up.
