Once again, the guy is very astute and I agree with almost all of his observations. The only one was the rather light rasgueado with thumb up in the air, 4 notes down strokes only ieam, he states that he thinks it is not driven strongly from the big knuckle but rather the middle joints. This is not right at all, it is the same as any normal rasgueado. The difference visually is that the fingers don’t extend because there is no return stroke. That is why he might perceive the drive from middle knuckle, as they remain bent…but no it is as normal.

Interesting to see that Sabicas flexes the ring and little finger when he plays picado. At 14.40 in the video the commentator calls it the 'A' finger tuck.
I naturally do that and if I do, I can play faster IM picado. But because there is more tension in my hand I train myself not to do it. Maybe I need to think again.

I'm not going to watch this as I've seen enough of his Paco and Vicente analysis attempts to know it's not worth my time.

He doesn't really have a clue. He suggested Paco rested his thumb on the soundboard as he played the upper (bass) strings in order to get some sort of "leverage"! Wut? How on earth are you going to get leverage from a resting thumb? He was totally unaware of the obvious reason that Paco did this for stability, to help maintain a consistent right hand position.

And for his Vicente analysis I remember him saying something about Vicente's bouncing right hand being of benefit for fast picado. The passage in question was from early on in Callejon del Luna where he was doing a cross string trill with m finger playing string 2 and i finger playing string 1. Absolutely nothing to do with getting speed from a bouncing hand.

I disagree and feel the guy is very astute with almost all the observations, except the ones I point out (he makes conjectures which I think is ok since he is not a pro player of the genre). To me, his version of the word “leverage” does mean “stability”. It is something to “push against” for stabilizing or balancing the hand as the fingers alternate. I have no qualms with that assessment. You have a point about the “bouncing” hand, to me it is a situation of Vicente’s personal toque that his hand sort of pivots around the index finger apoyando, exaggerated by perhaps movement of the m finger that is not so efficient (in comparison to Paco who hardly moves at all when going fast). Vicente does not have that sharp staccato attack like paco, his notes are more lyrical, ringing, when he plays single notes.
