edgar884 -> MODES (Apr. 7 2006 23:58:38)

In my travels I've found that not everybody knows the Modes.

Ionian
Dorian
Phrygian
Lydian
Aoelian
Mixolydian
Locrian

I have transribed the Gmajor modes C Major Modes and the F major modes.
The F major modes could be of paticular interest to those who are learning the Bulerias.
And C Major for Solea
Any way if you don't know these, they are very important.

THANX, I've seen many forms of these scales, but I like these forms the best.
They are Satriani style Modes.

No problem.

Thanks, not just for the content but the brilliant use of Powertab Editor. I have been drawing really rough guitar neck diagrams to illustrate these and other scales for my students, this will replace that and look a lot better. I usually only used Powertab to demonstrate musical examples, and I also find that a lot of players, as well as new students have never heard of the modes.

Thanx Jim, it took a long time for me to figure out all the little tools on power tab but it was worth it. I developed a teaching method for my students called scale imagery. What I do is get the students to see there scales and modes as a whole pattern instead of seperate notes.

A good trick too, is to memorize the individual string patterns, like on the f major modes.

I teach the scale like this instead of separate notes.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------ECT:--------
-------------------------------------------------------THIRD----2-3--5-------------
-----------------------------SECOND-----1-3-5-------------------------------------
-FIRST PATTERN-------1-3--5----------------------------------------------------

I think it's easier to memorize in patterns rather than notes.

Thanx for the compliments man. I'll do some more lessons in power tab soon.

I just did a C Major modes as well, look up top.

I also teach scales as patterns, seeing as that's how I used them when I played rock. I'm seeing a resurgance in the desire to play lead guitar among my teen students, many of them like Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix more than any current artists. At the moment I only have two that are interested in flamenco.

Jim
