hi guys
there is this konnakol mclaughlin video where they show triplets but in some measures we have three eight notes groupings and in other measures we have two eight notes groupings. The latter is very confusing to me. I have troubles to understand how to count triplets with two eight notes groupings. Here is the video.
They start counting this exercise at fourth minute 24th second . Measure 4 is easy to understand cause they have three eight notes groupings but measure 6 and 7 are very difficult for me to understand. Below I will try to paste screenshot

They are still triplets but the accents are on alternate notes in the bar.
Not really sure why you are trying to learn from this though. You need some basic understanding first. Like from the videos I and others have been posting in your other threads.

Ditch these videos man. Pick up the guitar and play. Simple basic compas. Never mind about eighth this and quintuplet that. Listen and try to copy some super simple rythym patterns.

It is challenging for everybody that had not experienced complex polyrhythm. Start with understanding the simple stuff first. The Indian musicians are doing two things…time keeping with hands, and VOCALIZING subdivision. You have to be able to keep basic time first. Next you master ta, just a beat, taka, basically 2 per beat, takita, 3 per beat or triplets, takadimi is 4, etc. So only after you get that down do you come to the thing being shown, where you use the “wrong” vocal grouping for a certain rhythm. That is how syncopation happens. Note groupings achieve the same thing. The part you ask about is vocalizing 2’s amongst triplet subdivisions, or the “wrong” vocal group. You can apply notes in place of the vocalizations. For example A-ta, A-B = taka, ABC=takita, ABCD = takadimi…so if you have triplets just play ABC, over and over. But if you have 2’s you just play two notes, ABABAB etc, but with a triplet rhythm.
Indian discipline insists on vocalization first before note application. But hopefully you can see how applying simple note sequences can open up the rhythmic scope.

If you want to learn triplets there are a dozen or so well known Sabicas and Ramon Montoya triplets falsetas you could learn and practice, and they are practical for accompaniment.
