You don’t preposition a finger on strings you won’t be playing, correct. However, practice ascending scales, not descending ones, for developing speed and control of planting.

rafapak -> RE: prepositioning fingers (Aug. 12 2023 16:07:18)

why ascending scales are more important for developing good picado when compared to descending scales ?

Because the fingers attack the string from underneath the strings, there are far too many caveats, tricks, cheats, exceptions to the rules, etc, that apply to decending scales or arpegios that simply DO NOT apply to the ascending situation. You can slide down the stairs but there is only one way to go up them. Students too smart for their own good constantly point out all the above without realizing the deeper REASONS for doing a simple thing.

so ascending to me means notes getting higher.
descending is getting lower.

but an ascending scale goes down away from you to the high e
and descending goes up towards you to the low E.

so ascending scale youd be attcking the next string from above no??

is this all wrong?

Unless everyone has gone crazy this is about picado. As in apoyando with your fingers. Every damn note is played from below the string you are playing. PULGAR is the opposite…from above.

Ascending:ABCDEFGA
Descending: AGFEDCBA

Can’t get more clear than that.

Everything is correct. Attacking the next string from above down to the ground.

this read slightly differently sounds like you were saying that the fingers attack string from underneath when you are practicing descending scales (exclusively). which is what confused me.

I then thought the only possible thing you could mean is that you were talking about where the fingers APPROACH from. hence my attempt for clarity. a simple miss understanding damn it! [:D][;)]

Last I checked the ground is BELOW my guitar and the sky is ABOVE it. [8|]
