Occasionally, I encounter someone who's interested in learning more about flamenco guitar and who has no prior exposure. They'd like to see a clip on YouTube.

If I had to choose a single video of Antonio Rey, it'd be this one:

If I had to choose one of Vicente, it'd be this one:

But, for PdL, I'm not sure that there's an obvious choice. So, I ask you, foro comrades, if you had to recommend one video of Paco, which would it be?

I'm tempted to choose this live performance of "Caña de Azúcar" but was wondering if there's a better choice:

Depends maybe on who I am showing, but this is pretty much impressive all the way around:

Toque libre, a compás, solo/ensemble, picado tremolo etc, decent audio, good filming angles, music is middle period, not too modern nor too traditional. It has it all in one short clip.

I Agree. One of my favorites too, although I always avoid getting in this position of choosing just one, one guitarist, one video, one style. But yes Cueva del Gato was one of the first pieces I learned from Paco many years ago. I was playing it this afternoon on the balcony and still those scales give me the hardest time[:@] playing them on 160bpm even though I hit bursts way faster than that. Maybe the problem is with the 3rds? Who knows[8|]

what I love about older videos (paco video) is that you can hear oryginal sound of guitar. Nowadays people do digital recordings and you have distorted sound of the instrument. This is where progress sucks

A lot has to do with using too much compression IMO. They squash the dynamics then drive it up to the ceiling volume wise.

In regards to Paco introductions I prefer to show documentaries to new comers. Light and Shade was perfect as it is short and captures the essence and only uses short impressive clips.
