Jon Boyes -> New Adam Del Monte video lessons (Apr. 4 2006 11:28:12)

Just caught this on FT. https://www.newlearningvision.com/
Click on the flamenco lessons link and watch the demo.

Check it out, he's a monster player and the lessons look really good. Kind of Encuentro standard playing but in English and with decent, slow step by step instructions on r/h tech AND l/h fingering AND compas.

Only criticism is that I've going round the site in circles trying find out how much they cost.
[:D]

he´s got some good solea at his momepage as well....unless it´s removed

You have to register and then you see how much it costs - silly design.

Anyway, the Solea lessons was $18 far as I remember.

Jon Boyes -> RE: New Adam Del Monte video lessons (Apr. 4 2006 15:23:53)

Cheers for that, Guy.

I tried to register and couldn't - although the form says 'if applicable' to the boxes next to State and zip code, it won't allow me to enter either my (UK) postcode, or no postcode. [8|]

Then register with a bogus US address. Its just a registeration anyway. While I didn't try it, I'm sure if you actually buy something they'll have a place to fill your billing address.

Anyway, looks like they still need to work on their interface...

Here's a list of the lessons they have so far, if you register you can get emails when they add new lessons.

Alegria for beginners $18
Flamenco beginer package $50
Tangos $18
Solea for beginner $18
Solea $18

Not too much stuff at the moment. I hope they beef up their offering soon as Adam seems like a good teacher on the sample video.

Ron.M -> RE: New Adam Del Monte video lessons (Apr. 4 2006 22:02:51)

I just checked it out...
Seems a very genuine guy to me..
For a few bucks I think folk could learn a lot there...

(Unless they only want freebies of course!)[:D]

cheers

Ron

I ordered the Alegrias lesson. I have only skimmed through it a couple of times, but at almost 30 minutes, it was well worth the money. I was hoping more for a lesson on the structure of an alegrias, but he follows the standard formula of teaching some falsetas, escobilla compas etc. It lists for $18, but is discounted to $13. So, for $13 you get a really good 30 minute lesson. There are no onscreen tabs or anything, so you pick everything up from the video. He goes pretty slow, and covers everything very thoroughly. I think it was a good investment. I'm probably going to order the tangos lesson too. i don't know what it is about Solea, but I haven't been able to develop a liking for it. So, I'll probably skip that lesson. Maybe, by that point, flamenco-teacher will have their updated lessons up. [:)]

funny man, alegrias is'nt my favourite toque, id rather listen to stuff like siguiriyas, soleares, minera, tarantas, zambras all the dark sounding stuff.

I hear ya, man. I like some of it. I have only recently developed a liking for cante. But yea, I like the happy ones, Alegrias, Columbianas, Zapateados, Garrotin...there's a few more, but can't think of them right now. I do like Tangos, Bulerias and Fandangos (esp. de Huelva).

bahen -> RE: New Adam Del Monte video lessons (May 24 2006 3:48:16)

Does anyone recognise the really Arabic sounding falseta at the end of his sample lesson? For the prices... well worth it. I think I'm going to start purchasing lessons from the man.

Garyw1960 -> RE: New Adam Del Monte video lessons (May 26 2006 22:24:20)

Registration was OK using my UK postcode.............I think you have to tick the terms and conditions box..and select your country from the drop down list.........and get the CASE sensitive passwords and emails correct.............5 goes later you are away.

Regards

Gary

But he is always "Fuera de compás" in his sample Bulerías and Soleá. Do you really learn from teachers who do not playing in the compas?

I read this over at FT too. He is not fuera compas at all, and has pretty good tempo without percussion. I am not so sure you understand what compas is Roberto. Perhaps you just don't feel the synchopations he is doing, but he is certainly in the rhythm in that free preview clip.

Also your negative attitude about him as a teacher, I don't get. Do you think juan martin has better compas? I am no big fan or friend of Adam del Monte, I am just going on that vid clip. I don't get the negativaty here. [&:]

duende -> RE: New Adam Del Monte video lessons (May 29 2006 5:38:19)

he´s totally IN compas at his intro buleria. i think you got lost in the syncopation

Paleto -> RE: New Adam Del Monte video lessons (Jan. 17 2007 1:29:07)

Hey guys,

I have been to Adam del Monte's house twice for lessons. He is a very good player, and I sincerely doubt he was out of compas (his wife is an excellent dancer and I'm sure she took care of any compas problems long ago). I'm not going to spend time finding the exact video under question, but I can say with what experience I do have that he is *very* good and I don't believe he would publish something on the internet as a lesson, where he is out of compas.

Take it from me, I have a sevillanas sample on my site just to give people an idea of what I can play, and I was not spot on in compas, admittedly. But Adam del Monte plays the real thing and I suspect his on-line lessons are excellent.

I have considered trying some of his lessons online myself and most likely will do some in the next few months.

My two cents anyway.

Florian -> RE: New Adam Del Monte video lessons (Jan. 17 2007 2:12:20)

well ricardo, duende and paleto say hes in compas thats enough for me [:)]

havent seen the vids but i have his album, hes a fine guitarist.

Gummy -> RE: New Adam Del Monte video lessons (Jan. 17 2007 12:43:13)

The lessons are pretty good. The thing I don't like abuot them is that they take some time to load into the computer before you can skip through the videos to the exact part you want to watch. I constantly clear my History and cookies so I always need to let them fully load.

Sometimes I just want to hear the full twelve count played all the way through, both slowly and up to speed(he does this but those parts are not seperate or indexed to quickly find). Many times in the vids, he is instructing bit by bit and stops midway and explains a small detail, which is nice the first time but it stops the flow. I am trying to memorize the fingering and he stops. By the time he starts again, I have forgotten where I was. This is why tabs would help. Of course I understand people would share the tabs and not buy the vids.

Rod

Paleto -> RE: New Adam Del Monte video lessons (Jan. 17 2007 14:47:28)

It would be a good idea for you to give feedback on those things to Adam, he may look for a way to do the very things you find helpful. There are ways programmers can allow a viewer to see the tabs, but which would make it difficult or impossible for people to share the them. I really encourage you to give him the feedback, it would be helpful to him to know that.
