Take care Nealf. I wouldn´t worry about weakening the neck. If the guitar has reinforcement, make sure not to remove so much that you´ll see them comming through. You also have to to refinnish the whole neck. Left in the hand of a good luthier or repairman, it´s not a big deal, but things can go wrong
