ORIGINAL: Filip Would be awesome but I haven't seen anything about a DVD. That's another topic, Youtube is fine but there has been no DVDs since 1996 concert, and in general there are only a couple of Paco's concerts on DVDs sadly. The 2010 box had a documentary with live footage (live in Spain), La Busqueda had footage, and then the live concert with Mclaughlin (from 1987, however it was new in 2016). YouTube and other streaming services are delivering higher quality video that people can watch on their big flat screen TV, than the old DVDs anyway, and so this convenience has derailed the DVD industry, so only some old fashioned guys like us still like that. I rarely sell my CD any more as even old people ask me “how can I play this? Even my computer doesn’t have a CD drive”. One lady was about to hand me cash for a CD then found it on Spotify on her phone and put her cash away. [:D] So DVD is simply a waste of money to produce for such a small market. My frustration is those Montreux shows on YouTube are only half the show, and the boring half at that. It is ironic that people that produce those shows seem to think the full band portion is the main part of the flamenco gig, when actually, Paco is just doing that to fill the time. One thing I have often thought about is that if a flamenco guitarist is asked to play solo, and plays every palo, the concert is only like 45 min. So we have to repeat palos to do a two hour concert with intermission. Paco uses that second half of his show to do mixed medley of his famous tunes (mostly rumbas), feature the token dance portion, and finally do his jazz fusion Zyryab (Meeting of the Spirits throwback). Of course he enjoys to play that way, it is way more relaxing than the difficult first part, but any gigging musician knows it is filler.
