XXX -> RE: Warming up - The hidden feeling (Mar. 29 2006 22:42:28)

To be honestly, I never bothered too much about warming up. Do I say its unimportant? No, of course not!

My hands also feel better when warmed up and I also "love this feeling of accuracy and control."
But I have come to the conclusion that life is too short and when I take the guitar in my hand I try to make music from the first second on.
If necessary, do your excersizes. I do them too. For warming up I do picado. My lefthand needs definitely more warming up. But I really cant remember that I would have warmed up for longer than 5 or max. 10 minutes (if Im warming up for something hard to play)

The "hidden feeling" is IMO just an accelerated blood circulation in your hands, well that is at least in my case.

If I am physically cold, a glass of red wine warms my blood and I am ready to play. To play my best, I need to have played through at least 2 challenging pieces that have some arpeggios and stuff, I say 10 minutes? But really the thing I need to do well is inspiration. After I play for an hour, I might start running low on energy unless I am in the mood. Also, I often have to play accomp. for dance or cante, then do a solo. I usually don't feel ready after just doing lots of rasgueados. My fingers need more arpeggio stuff to feel warm and ready.

PDL always starts his concert with Rondena, free stuff, then speeds up with a little picado. Then bulerias really warms him up for something like La Barrosa which is the real challenge.

If i play all day long, by late night, i start to feel that
enhanced control. Not only in technique, but i feel my
rhythmic equalibrium stablize, and i can be in the pocket
of the groove, without effort.
I love that feeling.[;)]
