JamesNC -> José Romero in Madrid (Sep. 30 2022 23:28:07)

I was living in Madrid in 1993-94 and bought this student guitar from a very nice gentleman but would like to know more about it. I love and listen to flamenco but am no longer able to play.. Should I just call his shop and ask about it? I've looked but haven't seen similar models online, is there an online resource for getting details, value, etc... on guitars like this? Thank you in advance.

”Estudio” is a word generally used for entry level guitars. It is basically a student’s guitar. This guitar has the maker’s label, but is unsigned, which means it was probably made under subcontract at another shop. I don’t know what it’s worth and I have no interest in buying it. YMMV.

Correct, as I mentioned in my post, it is a student guitar and, it was indeed made by José Romero, he sold it to me himself. Not sure what YMMV refers to except for on sites like STG lol

I meant opinions may vary. I wouldn’t expect anyone on the Foro to be interested in it. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone try to sell a student guitar on this forum. The ones I’ve tried or owned were all duds. Try to find completed listings on eBay, etc. Good luck!

Hola James

José is a friend of mine He has closed his taller in Madrid, after passing 2 months in intensive care thanks to Covid and unable to walk or talk for almost a year. He has moved to Escorial. He called me to explain what had happened and says he would like to have a small taller and go back to worth for afición. I have his personal number.

Suerte

Morante

Many of the madrid makers, (learning from Ramirez, their maestro), send requests for student guitars to Valencia (companies like Esteve, Sanchis, Alhambra, Adalid, etc.) and have their special unsigned labels attached, and sell them to customers for a small profit based on their own names, which are associated only with the Top Concert level instruments built by hand (hence the personalized signatures). There is no reason to assume Romero operated differently. Even we know that Sanchis made top model guitars for Atocha Conde, etc. Some more information about your guitar could be revealed by photos of the build details. For example, it is easy to see the connection between the Atocha Condes and Hermanos Sanchis lopez of Valencia. From there you can determine a fair price for the instrument, based on what they go for right out of the factory.

Loosen the strings and set the timer on a smartphone camera. Put the camera inside the sound box and take pictures of the underside of the top. The maker may have left their name or other info there.
