lmseldin -> Looking for top favorite Flamenco guitar pieces to play (May 16 2022 13:52:59)

My background is I have played classical guitar for many years and have played my share of 'Spanish pieces".

Does anyone have a favorite list of top popular flamenco guitar pieces that has a good tab? (I am not looking for beginner practice pieces). I understand this is subjective.

Thanks,

Larry

A hard question to answer as everyone has different tastes. Why not learn the flamenco that you are inspired by? Here are some suggestions of where to find tabs.

If you’ve played classical guitar for many years, why are you looking for tabs rather than staff notation? Just curious…

One book I think would suit you ideally is Danzas Árabes. You can find my review of it here:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-reviews/R1LVGKOOJ2T8P/ref=cm_cr_dp_d_rvw_ttl?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B002C7CDEU

But it might be cheaper to get it direct from Affedis than from Amazon — €48.50 + postage.

Paul,

As a quick note. I had studied to be a professional classical guitarist when I was younger. However, for me, I did not make enough money and went to University for my career. I then had a large gap in playing and went back to guitar a while back. Now, I enjoy guitar just for own enjoyment. Much more fun...

However, I learned about a "digital tuner", no more tuning fork, wow... lol. Also, YouTube is a great way to learn. I also, get to compare others who play the piece I like and now rather than just playing from one view point, listening to other interpretations gives me more opportunities.

Also, on YouTube I had been introduced to Tabs... I like them. New to me, but definitely has value for me. For me tabs, gives me locations and I find that I use both Tabs and reading music.

Good question and thanks for the input.

Orsonw,

Thank you.

Larry

One can't go wrong with Paco Peña's Toques Flamencos (Music from the Student Repertoire). It has a good tab for main flamenco palos. Intended for intermediate and advanced students.
