Jay4Jay -> Cordoba GK Studio - lower E string close to fretboard edge (Jan. 10 2022 20:31:51)

hi All!

I own a Cordoba GK Studio several years old, and as far as I know equipped with original nut.
The distance from the lower E-string to to the edge of the fretboard is clearly less than with the high E string.
This sometimes leads to pressing the string next to the freatboard.
Some pctures attached of the string spacing!

Do any of you know why the lower E string is placed relatively close to the edge of the fretboard?

I don't know if it is on purpose or just an accident, but let's assume it is on purpose. If so, I can see why this may have been done. Gives more space to the high-e string so it is much less likely for it to slip over the fretboard edge as it is being pressed. And for the low-E string, it is really not a big problem that it is a bit closer to its nearest edge as the lateral movement of string is not symmetrical - the fretting hand comes from the underside, its weight pulling towards the same side, and any bending or movement mostly goes in the 'down' direction (towards the fretboard edge nearest the high-e string) - which for the low-e string means away from its nearest edge.

Something like that.

what did you mean by saying that it presses the string next to the fretboard? the guitar sitting next to me has the same thing, by the way. it's hard to imagine how it would slip off the top edge of the fretboard, however.
is that what you were experiencing?
I played a gk studio or pro (it was the more expensive of the two) at a guitar center recently and was really surprised. it wasn't particularly great sounding and I've got no use for the electronics, but the action was incredibly low. I've never played anything even close to that low. must have been sub 2.5, maybe by a lot.

change your strings, man : )

Agree with Konstantin. The GK Studio has an extra narrow nut. So to maximize string spacing it’s more typical to allow more space on the high E side to the edge of the fretboard and less on the bass E, as opposed to having it symmetrical. Much more likely to pull the high e down off the fretboard then the low e
