I don’t know if there were any “secretos” in that video, but if there were they’re not secrets any more!

I was in Victor’s shop a few weeks ago and I have to say his workmanship is impeccable. This carries over to his shop, which is clean, neat and tidy, and even his jigs are meticulously made. He’s a very inventive and creative maker who is also a natural born teacher and there actually were a few ‘secrets’ shared during my visit. I know this because he would start to show me something and then would stop and say “Secreto?” and once I’d agree he’d proceed with his explanation.

His brother Francisco is also very good, and has his own style and personality to his work. He’s recently set up his own shop in the San Ildefonso area of Granada.

This is a good video to point to next time someone ask how to covert their classical or factory guitar setup

Got a couple of pointers. The string hole marking gauge, and maybe using electrical tape for dressing the frets instead of thin masking tape.

I think most secrets from the Spanish intellect come from telling a person to pay attention to something they learned or developed on their own. Like it's important that you know this.

Man! like sharing all of my developed techniques is some how a secret? :-)

Many Spanish builders will get together on occasion, and share their "secrets" it's a form of bragging rights.

I don't really understand secrets either, there are no secrets, it's very simple, they are ways of working to achieve a goal, in this case the goal is to make a good musical instrument, there is nothing else.

I think that is a bit of a simplistic view, actually.

In the case of Victor, one of the “secretos” he shared with me was how he achieves something which he regards as a product differentiator for some of his higher end guitars. He spent quite a bit of time and expense to develop the idea, and was careful to draw the line on how much he was comfortable with me sharing about the technique and what he absolutely did not want to be shared. I respect that and it would be discourteous, as well as a betrayal of trust, to disclose something which someone would rather be kept private.

The video title is a bit of a joke and is the words of another. There’s nothing secret in it, just as there are no secrets about using geometry to calculate aspects of a guitar’s function.
