Andy Culpepper -> New negra #129 pictures + video (Jul. 28 2021 16:53:31)

Just finished this negra with fancy purflings as requested by the client. Pretty happy with it, nice deep bass and clear piano-like trebles. The main difference between Cypress and Indian Rosewood that I find is that Rosewood tends toward a broader spectrum of sound - more meat on the low bass and high treble while Cypress is more concentrated on the midrange. That and a bit more sustain in Rosewood.

Giambattista, thanks for the kind words! Do you still have your Anders guitar? I seem to remember a sale post a while back. I would like to own one of those :)

I like it a lot, that’s a great guitar.
Purflings are lovely and I particularly like this version of your rosette.

Ciao Andy, yes I still have my Anders Negra, great guitar, as the same of the blanca that Anders had already made for me. The be onest when I saw your beautiful negra and heard the sound, my hearth told me order one immediately! :-)... at the same time my brain reminded my that for now I have to wait :-) to put some money away. As a matter of fact your negra really hit me because it is simply fantastic! I really believe you are a great Luthier and, as Anders, a real gentleman.

ciao
Giambattista

Man, I have tried to puzzle out that last sentence for a while and I'm not getting anywhere, please try again [:D] Thanks for the comment though [:)]

Thanks Echi! Every time a make a new batch of tiles or rope they're slightly different I guess.

Awesome, thanks for the kind words. It seems like Anders' guitars might become quite collectible (among a certain crowd), since it seems like he's not really building any more? I always loved the organic look of his guitars, and his philosophy. And Simon's movie of course had a big impact on me when I started building.

Thanks, Rob, etta, Pali and amigo!

Andy, sorry about the spell check nonsense, I’m a terabyte speller and spell check gets the better of me, see what I mean, but sometimes use this d vice with a lot of cracks... without my glasses... late at night... right now I’ll on a stool watching AYC work it’s way through the bandsaw...

I think I was asking how much you expected the tone to develop/change the first few weeks of playing her?

Hey sorry for the late reply. You're making me super envious with that AYC by the way.

In general I have found that with time guitars will increase slightly in volume and the tone will become a little more even.
