We are talking about the luthier, not the foroflamenco contributor, I assume?

I am so sorry guys. Yes, the luthier, Gerundino Fernandez. Should have made that clear. God willing our Gerundino from here is doing well.

I cannot confirm it either if Maestro Gerundino Garcia Fernandez is in the eternal guitarworld....
Trying to get in touch with some people closer by Gerundino.

I Peter ( gerundino 63) is still around.

If I have news I let you know.

Peter

Tomás Jiménez -> RE: Gerundino R.I.P.? (Mar. 17 2006 22:29:54)

I bought my guitars directly from Gerundino.
I’ve got his number and that of his sister Palmira across the road but I haven’t got the guts to phone and ask.
I’ve just been living here in England for one year so I can’t just drive over and check him out at the bar where he always went for a wine.
He took me into his house , told me about his life, his kids etc , gave me food and you know very kind to me. He liked/ likes how I play he said to a singer “ El chico este tiene dos cojones tocando la guitarra” I blushed not for the cojones for the sentiment.

If I phone I will cry so please find out and write here about Gerundino. I was with him just before and just after his wife died and he told me all he wanted to was to go to the sky to be reunited with his wife.

I wait to hear.

Tomás

Well...I did a search on Yahoo España and found this article from La Voz de Almeria.

Escribano -> RE: Gerundino R.I.P.? (Mar. 18 2006 9:36:55)

I can confirm that, sadly:

quote:

Well, sad news....

I have a performance today, will do extra my best on my solo pieces, sure he can hear me.....

Peter

What a lost

Gerundino was one of the really great names in spanish lutherie. I like his guitars a lot allthough i never had the chance to play on myself. However i think his spirit will stay alive in every single instrument that he has built. That's the truth when you build intruments. The instruments will most probably exceed the lifetime of the luthier, some instruments even a couple of generations.
