Hi all

What are your top three best players of all time?

RULES

It can be anyone who displays the skills required to play flamenco not necessarily a flamenco player by trade eg angel romero, not someone who plays fingerstyle but never displayed any techniques of flamenco eg Julian bream.

Players are to be listed in any order or no order but the skills and technical proficiency are what we are judging, not the feeling or tone. How they interact with other musicians in real time is a technical skill so will be included.

Feel free to explain why you think a player deserves a spot.

Remember the one you like the best might not be the best player.

Have fun

The question offers a too wide range of answers imho.
For sure Sabicas, Paco and Vicente Amigo are the more influential.
No need to explain why Paco or Vicente are virtuosos, I think.
Paco (and somehow also Vicente) is even more than a virtuoso, he has been a guide for the whole flamenco guitar players for decades.
If I had 2 slots more I’d say Gerardo Nunez and Dani De Moron.

Are you referring to tocaores or guitarristas?

Anyone you think fits the bill my friend.

In my opinion the question of "top three players" with "rules" and listed criteria as presented in your comment is too open-ended and too open to interpretation to have any value. For example, the subject is "best flamenco player," yet you state, "It can be anyone who displays the skills required to play flamenco not necessarily a flamenco player by trade...," whatever that means.

Also, your admonition, "Remember the one you like the best might not be the best player," seems a bit condescending for someone who just joined the Foro to be advising many on the Foro who have years of study and experience regarding flamenco.

Nevertheless, my reservations on the value of this exercise notwithstanding, I'll go along with it.

Sabicas and Paco de Lucia for reasons that need no explanation.

Paco Cepero, in my opinion the finest accompanist past or present.

Johann Sebastian Bach

Good for solo, cante, and Baile.

Paco de Lucía was pretty good too.

Paco Cepero is far and away the greatest alive today.

This is not a question that can be objectively answered in the way it is stated. The most important element that will still be reflected in our answers is "who is your favorite....". This has already been done many times here. Who is the best gets really complicated like asking who is the greatest violinist, cellist, conductor, orchestra, or even banjo player.

Morante -> RE: Best flamenco player (Jun. 14 2021 16:09:42)

Entiendes la diferencia? Tampoco somos amigos.

Escribano -> RE: Best flamenco player (Jun. 14 2021 19:09:56)

Capisco la differenza, ma molti no [8|]

Piwin -> RE: Best flamenco player (Jun. 15 2021 7:57:00)

I'd put "feeling or tone" in with technical skills. It's a lot of work.

Nunez, PdL, Cepero?

Dunno.

I would've included Sanlucar, but I deducted one point per euro that he charges for his DVDs, so his final rank is now between Gabriela and Armik. [8D]
