I was listening to PDL today - in particular Antonia from Cositas Buenas - and just amazed at his ability to play so tastefully and syncopated at the same time. Without the strong palms I wouldn't be able to listen to it - this piece would just be too syncopated, but with them - it just blows my mind. Of course, PDL has many, this one stood out to me today.

What pieces strike you as falling in this category ?

On the pop up menu for the DVD “making of” Live in Spain 2010 disc, you hear him practicing it with the sponge under the strings. Practicing like that is very revealing regarding timing errors tiny or small. I think practicing like that is key to developing a natural ability to control the synchopations. At least Paco didn’t feel “above” practicing constantly that way. We also see him in the hotel room practicing the Bulerias from Zyryab the same way. When ever I do it I notice all these little inconsistencies that I don’t notice when notes are ringing out.
