I'm travelling to Spain next week for a month to attend Stephen Hill's guitar making course in La Herradura, really looking forward to escaping the grey rain of South Germany!

As I'm flying back with the guitar that I'm building (extra seat booked), I was hoping to avoid travelling out with a guitar that I can play while in Spain. Any suggestions/recommendations on who might be able to loan me a guitar for the duration of my trip? Happy to drive to collect if need be.

Alternatively, any suggestions and advice on how to travel with a (cheaper) guitar in the hold of the aircraft would be much appreciated!

Finally, if anyone's in Granada location and wants to meet up please get in touch.

Thanks in advance,

D.

I am not there any more but Stephen is a lovely guy and you will have a blast. He might have a beach guitar you can use but you will be very busy building, eating and drinking, so I wouldn't bother myself.

I carried two guitars an a flight with my buddy who also had two guitars. In madrid and other airports you plastic wrap the case how you want then send it to baggage if you want. Since you bought the seat they should let you carry both onboard imo.

Thanks, you’re probably right that I won’t have the time, energy and inclination to sit indoors practicing when I Could be swimming in the sea instead!

Sometimes it is good to step away for a while. Gives you a chance to absorb and return fresh.

I did that course in 2015. Best month of my life! 😄

Yeah there is plenty to do always. But if you're like me you will get the itch to play. Who would want to play some flamenco whilst sat on the veranda in andalucia?!!
I didn't have my guitar with me and was desperate to play.

Stephen had a guitar in his shop that he let me play after hrs at the shop. Maybe Stephen Hill #129? I forget. But lovely guitar
That saved my bacon.
I also had an afternoon guitar lesson with local player and for that, Stephen lent me a guitar (a friends that hed repaired I think) that was in his office.

Anyway have fun.
I'm jealous for sure! 😄

Thanks Stu. This is great to hear, super excited now. I’m sure I’ll be able to track down a guitar somehow, just got to stop myself bringing yet Another guitar home!

Exactly what Escribano says. I've done the course with Stephen in 2019, amazing experience. While at the workshop after hours I played Stephen's beach guitar.
So if I were you I would not worry that much about it (after all you'll be in a guitar building workshop). Just relax, enjoy the time there and take the max out of it.

One thing though, unless you plan to french polish the guitar yourself at home, you don't need that extra guitar seat. I did the same thing, forgetting that I wanted to send my guitar to Granada for polish.

Cheers

When it comes to bringing guitar on board, there are threads that discuss that here, you can search. In my experience it depends on the airline and I would always call them to check their policy. For example, Lufthansa allowed me to take my guitar in the cabin free of charge, but Air France requires a separate seat for the guitar.

And once I booked a flight where I could not bring the guitar, so I had to cancel it. It was a flight operated by AirEuropa but I got my thicket on AirFrance. Neither of the two companies were able to book me an extra guitar seat, each company pointed to the other one saying they have to do so.

I guess the easiest thing is to check it in the hold as Ricardo says, but I have an irrational fear of doing that although a few members of this foro have done it.
