Excellent video. One thing to warn people learning this..at 1:03:30 he is discussing the copla structure and if you accompany a singer that does not sing “cuadrao”, then you have to stay on which ever chord you are on and he recommends keeping the 6 beat pattern of the right hand (x 23, x 5...). This is a little dangerous because there are times when you feel that 5 accent in the mathematically wrong spot (2). So I recommend you keep 3’s only and don’t worry about that 5 accent until the singer begins the next phrase.

A clear example of this is Banderillas on Tauromagia...you can do the right hand pattern for the singing of the estribillo which is done twice during the song (both times the same way). It is not cuadrao and not even 6 groupings work you will notice when they sing “En la Torre la valeta”. So just keep the 3’s until you sense a spot where you answer the phrase.

This was just awesome.
First Samuel is an amazing player and this gives some insight into how he got to that level.
This is a good review of techniques and sets a high standard to work towards.
My teacher started me with a similar approach but this gave me a new appreciation of the importance of it.
I have not taken lessons for a few years, so this helps in that respect.
I would like to see him go into more detail on the techniques although he does that some.
