ezravasq -> Saludos - veteran guitar player, new to flamenco (Apr. 4 2021 17:55:15)

Hello, I found these forums after my interest in flamenco re-kindled while working on the Malagueña in one of my classical guitar books. I did some searching and found these forums. I have a degree in music, and I even briefly dabbled in flamenco years ago when I was in college after meeting a Spanish exchange student who was an enthusiast. Still, I never studied the art seriously. In fact, I abandoned music as a profession years ago, but I still play as a hobbyist. These days I teach English for graduate writing to international students at a university in Los Angeles, California. Right now, I'm watching YouTube lessons that are online and working on some exercises. Also, I've ordered the Graf Martinez Method book, after doing some searching on this forum and finding several people recommend it. I do have a question though. I like the traditional solo flamenco guitar music of Ramón Montoya, Sabicas, Carlos Montoya, Paco Peña, and early Paco de Lucia. However, when I look for contemporary flamenco guitarists, they play flamenco fusion, which I don't care for at all. Are there any new artists playing in the old flamenco style (I think it's sometimes called flamenco puro)? At any rate, I'm happy to be here, and I look forward to getting to know everyone on the boards. ¡Ciao!
