a classic TED presentation, in case you missed it. As one knows, TED talks have a mix of CEO philanthropists preaching feel-good platitudes, scientists talking about cool new discoveries, and the human interest or musical bookend before lunch or whatever... Mark arguably even outdoes BeardyMan here, and he's neither a beatboxer nor a looper, but an "intellobjectionalual"

Yes, genius. I have myself been getting bored with the traditional malagueñas and started experimenting with advanced microtonal concepts such as by this amazing conservative cantaora whose genius vocalizations (cultivated in the inspired intellectual environment of the modern “republican rally event”) guide my fingers to ever more adventurous tonal landscapes.

Aguaaa!!!

I recently had a plumber in for repairs who did interesting work.

He emitted a series of atonal belches and farts which followed a sophisticated syncopated pattern whose genius could only be fully appreciated when looped backwards and played at triple speed. He insisted his butt crack was a work of performance art representing the struggle of the proletariat against the cold machinations of a modernist Industrial Age which, in the interests of efficiency, had eliminated all curves from the stitching in the nether regions of his jeans. He explained that to free me from a lifetime of servitude to unnecessary and culturally restrictive labels, the hot and cold functions of the taps had been randomized. The kitchen sink’s sprayer hose defaulted to ON while in it’s resting place, with the argument that I would thank him were I ever to convince my neighbour next door to come over and do my dishes while in her nightgown.

Needless to say, I had to agree his justifications were compelling, as in this day and age it would be perilous not to do so...yet, still...

I refused to pay him.

I did, however, offer to gift him with a pictorial representation of his work that he could perhaps display in a local gallery, whilst I could use my copies during the presentation of my case to the courts.

Heaven help us.

1:26 and just after is awesome, plus that ending is great and you even included applause, which is super important. Maybe some crowd roars and bombs bursting in air?

I'm very glad to see this, my job is done. I'm off to bug some reggae forums now.

<gasp> you mean he wouldn't do it for the promotion?</gasp>

But Mark Appelbaum can play piano! I'm not trying to put him on a pedestal, and certainly not compare him to your plumbing genius, but I think he demonstrated the ability to narrate a story with either the black-and-whites or a door-spring.

Don’t get me wrong, I have no doubt my plumber was more than capable at practicing his craft, it’s just that boredom had managed to push him towards taking on roles beyond the sort of traditional, narrow definition of that of a plumber.

When the job was completed I asked him, Is it to code? His response was that this is the wrong question, that this is not the important question. The important question is, "Is it interesting?"

I thought not. But then it struck me. In allowing his creativity to push him in directions that were simply interesting to him, he no longer had to worry if, for instance, when the toilet flushed, it flushed down. He was able to change the fundamental question in his discipline, and was consequently able to take on roles in his own work which convention may regard as being far-flung from his professional definition.

Still, while I could fully appreciate his rationale, my stance was that what I was paying for was a toilet that indeed did flush down and hot taps which actually delivered hot. I also didn’t appreciate the placement of door stops underneath the toilet seat, which married each plop to an accompanying sproing, something which caused my next door neighbour great embarrassment the other day, and effectively put the kibosh on my request for help with the dishes.

Creative plumbing, social evil or new frontier?
As long as that toilet flushes DOWN, we are probably OK... however you said "far flung" int the same sentence, so I'm imagining Gorillas flinging away...
I saw a fully flipped junkie once lay one out into his own hand and then hurl it as a gesture of devaluation of his target, I suppose...

I added nothing other than my humble accompaniment. The jaleos were “live reactions” to her live a cappella performance. I really think if you want to have your most adventurous musical experiments to be appreciated properly, you need to attend some Republican Rallies. They really know how to “distinguir”.

I'm pretty sure that I heard the crowd roar. That's an integral part to many old concert recordings, naturally, followed by gestures of humility and gratitude and waiting a few seconds for the crowd to shut up before continuing to play...

Re: the publicans: the squawkus caucus
A) sounds like a super-spreader event
B) like Borat and his crowd pleasing song at that rally?

PS: wasn't that originally an English drinking song they slapped new lyrics upon back in the war of 1812 ? I have to wonder why they would adapt their ostensible foes drinking songs, even given family histories etc.

Yes, super spreader of genius level microtonal singing bliss.

Isn’t every song?
