hi All, I want to apply a pickguard / golpeador to a gloss finished guitar top. These pickguards come in two versions , glued and electrostatic. The adavantage of the latter is that it can be removed easily, there's no glue. However the disadvantage is , according to some online search and vendor advise, that it may damage the guitar top when permanently applied. What's you experience with these removable (electrostatic) golpeadors and guitar top damage when permanently applied?

So that means you have to consider if you want to invest in a new one, or keep this one. If you plan on selling it and getting a proper flamenco guitar then the static cling thing should be fine for a short time. But if you learn correct techniques I am not sure it will be adequate for a long time (several months). If you decide the guitar is gonna have to be your main flamenco guitar, then you have to get the self adhesive kind. The golpeador will be “permanent” in the sense it will take up to 7 years of heavy playing to wear through (about 11 or 12 million golpe hits)..after which it is not too hard to change on your own without damaging the finish using NAPTHA and cotton balls. There are discussion threads on here for when that time comes, but for now you just need to make some decisions.
