In terms of monster players out there - Grisha comes closer than anybody I've seen in playing Paco's pieces.

Which players can also do Paco justice ? Please share links : )

Grisha knocks it out of the park.

I also enjoy Javier Conde's renditions. He's got a very dry style that works well for early PdL material.



Outside of his playing on PdL albums and renditions he did on his own, José Maria Bandera is deeply influenced by PdL. This tribute piece shows just how deep that influence goes.

When I first saw Antonio Rey perform live wit Farruquito in 2007, he played a bunch of Paco material and even did Zyryab as his solo. I have not seen anybody else other than Jose Maria Bandera as mentioned play that stuff. Javier Conde is great too but sticks to older material as far as I know. But Antonio was exceptional. Of course he has since abandoned that stuff and does his own music now. I am pretty sure all the Cano Roto guy’s know Paco’s material well.

Samuelito's covered some pieces at a very high level, but the best at it is Rafael Cortés who often hints at Paco's falsetas in his own compositions. I'm pretty sure Luciano Ghosn would do an amazing job at them (after all he spent his childhood learning Paco's music) but these days he sticks more to Antonio Rey and Vicente Amigo.

Closer? I think Grisha is at least as good as Paco in this video. At some parts he was even better.



Other guys from the foro like Ricardo Marlow or Jason McGuire are also top guys. They can pull off Paco's pieces if they want. But I'm not sure if they can keep up with Paco's picado - both speed and the quality of execution. Maybe Grisha is capable of it.

Jose Manuel León, Jose Carlos Gómez, Salvador, Salvador Andrades and others in Algeciras keep the spirit strong.

I came across a really fun video of Antonio sitting with Paco as they traded picado on Zyrab - Paco with his usual machine-gun picado, and Antonio - not quite able to keep up. Though I wondered a little if Antonio was holding back a little...not sure the ego of a flamenco would allow holding back, even if sitting next to the master, but I wondered.

Does anyone have that link to share with those who may not have seen it. I did a quick search - couldn't find it.

Actually I saw that...Antonio was showing paco the lick he USED TO DO but had forgotten...it is a taranta style pull off run at the 7th fret.
