Joonas Widenius on line lessons

Joonas has some new online lessons up, free of course.
I’ve just scanned through a couple but look forward to making some time for them.

Great stuff! I hope I can learn something from his videos.
One thing to notice: In the video above at 0:07 palo doesn't mean style. It's a musical form.

At 1:02 for a flamenco newcomer it's probably the first thing to know about flamenco chord fingerings. Btw, there are many ways to hold A major chord in the open position just to name a few: standard or traditional, rock, flamenco and chet atkins.

The words can be synonymous in context. “Estilos”, “palos”, “formas”, “cantes”, “canciones”, “cante jondo or cante Chico”, “Copla”, “cuple”, etc refer to different song forms. In English “song form” can be translated to just song, form, styles, genres, song groups or families, etc.

Paco de lucia often fingers A major triad open position as 1-2-3. Look every open A major here:

You know, I struggled with that simple half bar Amaj cord and gave up.

I spent some time playing Joonas's flamenco cord video and decided to give it another try. Not sure what I was hung up on. Spent the last two nights working on that A maj series and having a lot of fun with it. Had to fix a heater and blew off both my i and m nail today but not letting it slow me down. Set the metranome on somthing ridiculesly low and started doing the cords arpeggio just to get them clean.

Looks like Asus2 or A major with 9th chord. x02200 is played with fingers 1 and 2.

Hello all!

First thanks that you've found my videos!

There are so many things that you can many ways...this fingering thing that taking A-major with fingers 1 and 2 is not actually a big thing. The reason is: when you are teaching you can't tell everything at the same time as we know, so we have to decide what couple of things are on that moment important to mention. I've experienced that A major with 2 fingers is usually, like barrée, a difficult task. Usually it takes time to succeed and our fingers are also different so for others it may take even longer. For example Chicuelo's index bends like hell (left hand) and he plays things using that skill, I can't do that because my finger doesn't do that :-)

But anyway, I've decided to tell about this fingering because in the end it usually does good and also people are aware of that. People can play A-major like they want and in the end result are all that matters but it's worth to learn and struggle for a while. For me it took more or less maybe 1year to handle it, but it's been so long so I'm not 100% sure about it.

But yeah, there are so many things that we can do by many ways.
