Hi all. I know from my visits here that most of you buy your guitars from the makers or second hand. However, I would like your opinion about who are the serious flamenco guitar sellers out there. I have my own opinion about the better classical dealers but I really don't know who I should be looking to work with in terms of flamenco.

Thanks,

Zavaleta's La Casa de Guitarras, located in Oro Valley, just north of and adjacent to Tucson, Arizona, is a marvelous guitar emporium for both flamenco and classical guitars. James Greenberg runs it out of his home in Oro Valley, and one must make an appointment to meet him and see his guitars. He imports medium to high-end flamencos, largely from Spain, and he also sells guitars on consignment.

Several years ago I made arrangements to meet James in order to view and play his guitars. I ended up buying a Manuel Adalid flamenca blanca (Viviana) that had a fine set-up and beautiful sound. James also collects vintage guitars, and he let me play a 1935 Santos Hernandez, which was a real treat. Although I did not do it justice, it was fun just to be able to hold and play an original Santos Hernandez.

James is an interesting person. He, his lovely wife (who is from Oaxaca, Mexico), and I went out to a Mexican restaurant for dinner. He is a professor of applied anthropology at the University of Arizona in Tucson, specializing in various aspects of the Borderlands. My wife Marta, who has a doctorate in Medical Anthropology, has crossed paths with James at several anthropological conferences over the years.

Bill

In my opinion Zavaleta’s and Dan Zeff in USA, Mundo flamenco and Guitarras de Luthier in Europe.
Years ago Kent guitar classics used to deal also with flamenco guitars and offered the best service imho but nowadays it’s mostly about classical. I never dealt directly with guitar Salon nor Siccas.
The most famous is obviously Solera flamenca but I’ve been not happy with the way they do business in a couple of occasions.
No luck also with the guys of guitarsforsale.

I think Miles is semi-retired, or at least heading in that direction.

He currently has an Arcangel Fernandez 1958 flamenco for sale
https://www.kentguitarclassics.com/classical-guitars/arcangel-fernandez/arcangel-fernandez-of-madrid

and his "wanted" list looks like this: Guitars by José Romanillos, Robert Bouchet, Daniel Friederich, Hermann Hauser I, Hermann Hauser II, David José Rubio, Dominique Field, Francisco Simplicio, Enrique Garcia, Pascual Viudes, Enrique Coll, Santos Hernandez, Domingo Esteso [but not Conde], Ignacio Fleta, Marcelo Barbero, Arcangel Fernandez, Hernandez y Aguado, Manuel Reyes, Enrico Bottelli and 1950's Ramirez.

I think he had a Manuel Reyes last year or the year before. Looks like he is only interested in very high-end/collectable flamenco guitars these days.

I like Dan Zeff, as mentioned. Always very good dealings for over a decade now for myself and students.

Thank you for your responses, very helpful.

Yeah Miles @ Kent guitar classics is fully retiring at the end of the year. The only one I know is Mundo in Germany.

There is El Mundo which is basically London Guitar Studio. It's ok but it's not a serious flamenco guitar shop really.

I got my Blanca from Dan Zeff and have been very satisfied with it.
