I noticed that some cantaores are called "Tio XY" - do gitanos call elderly people always like that, like in f.e. turkish culture, where anybody in the age of your father is an "uncle" to you?

Not just elderly. It’s used more or less like “bro” here. Like “what’s up bro?” “K pasa tío?”
