As stated I have been practicing traditional flamenco palo....

For those of you that do play Gipsy Kings and use backing track....Where can I find or purchase just Rumba Percusion backing track minus the guitar....I would love to practice to it as well..

Thanks
Kalo

Fakemenco alert. I don't know if it's typical rumba rhythm.
These backing tracks have rhythm called tresillo - the 1st part of the 3-2 son clave. Nothing wrong with that.
But nowadays spanish sounding plastic pop music use it a lot. Despasito just entered the foro.

Nice Ramzi. [:)]

Wow, i don't know what to say, but, being that I asked for Gipsy King backing percussion track, that is exactly what was provided up above.

Have an open mind, because Gipsy King rumba groove is just as cool as learning traditional or what you call real flamenco.

Please pay no attention to critics that don’t have a Flamenco guitar yet nor understand the difference between rumba Flamenca and ragaeton and other latin claves.

The gift that keeps on giving.

How can you be the flamenco police already??.... with only a couple of years playing experience and without owning a flamenco guitar?

I've been at it 15 years+ and still feel completely innadequate! [:D]
I could probably to with a little of your self assuredness.

Confidence is great. However you have very little experince but seem brimming with certitude.

I guess the sweet spot is somewhere between the two of us.

I wrote the truth. Why should I hold back the details? What everyone should not do is to tell a lie.

Stu -> RE: Rumba Percussion Track (Sep. 3 2020 18:00:38)

What's you truth?? Point me in the direction of the fakemenco please.

4/4 time so that fat white asses can dance to that
melodic runs thrown here and there on nylon string guitar
known as rumba when played on spanish guitar and cajon

man i hate to write this but for all those that are offering advice, etc.. why don't you put up some videos of you playing? give us an example of what you find is real or not, or just play etc... that way, we can hear you play and we can make up our minds if your knowledge, contribution and skill is worthy of belief. talk is cheap

I was just going to say the same thing as you..But, I bet the excuse will be that he doesn't have a Blanca and is playing on a classical guitar or doesn't have means to videoing his playing.

I don't want to participate in putting anyone down on this forum..But, first off, if you looked at my post i specifically asked for Rumba percussion...And that is what I was given..Rhumba 4/4 Gispy King percussion...

There are many on this forum who can play AWESOME Rumbero music a.k.a. what he calls FAKEMENCO...But the ones who can play Rumbero can also play flamenco as well.

I would be happy to learn both...Nothing wrong with learning flamenco compas as well as Rumbero Compas...

Looking forward to hearing and seeing Devilhands playing.

Kalo

mt1007 -> RE: Rumba Percussion Track (Sep. 3 2020 20:36:39)

thats whats up...

man aside from the obvious, Entre dos Aguas! and the rest of Paco's rumbas, i really like Chanella, kick ass. so many great guitarists have awesome rumbas.. time is time regardless of palo. you have to dominate time. make the cheese bad ass, make the not puro into puro and phuck the rest

RobF -> RE: Rumba Percussion Track (Sep. 3 2020 20:46:26)

People shouldn’t feel pressured to run some kind of virtual gauntlet in order to feel their opinion is valid or that they are permitted to have a voice. If you want to kill the Foro, I’m afraid that would be a good way to go about it.

If someone wants to say something silly, we all still benefit from the blowback, and ultimately everyone gets to learn from it.

There are a lot of highly accomplished players here, but do we really want a Foro that exists only for the pro-level members? There is absolutely no doubt that the Foro benefits hugely from the contributions of members who have achieved excellence, but it might get pretty lonely at the top without the mayhem created by the rest of us. I’d hate to lose any of the current crew of contributors.

I mean, I have “Louie, Louie” down solid, isn’t that enough? I’ll probably never get the solo to ‘Canyons of Your Mind” perfect, but I’ve learned to live with that. As far as flamenco is concerned, I’m an aficionado, I play well enough that my friends who really can play don’t bash me over the head for it, but nobody’s ever questioned my love of flamenco or my ability to appreciate it just because my hands can’t express what’s in my heart.

What I meant is here on this thread. What causes you to say things like fakemenco alert? And despacito has entered the forum?

Just seems a strange thing to say.
Like kalo is hosting a party and you've come in and immediately slagged off his music choice. 😂

Its not fakemenco. It's the gypsy kings. Anyone in this forum knows the difference. It's yer grandma or your non aficianado friend etc that may need to be shown the difference.

Read the room man.

I agree with you Rob! People shouldn't be silenced and the colours that everyone bring are valuable. And no one should be hounded out. But just like in any social interactions. If someone is rude, clumsy and a bit heavy handed I think it's fair enough to call them out on it. To give them some 'truth' that they claim to be a fan of.

I say this all with love and a smile! 💛😀

mt1007 -> RE: Rumba Percussion Track (Sep. 3 2020 21:12:31)

RobF,

Yo man I hear you. I'm not suggesting that we have some gauntlet. Anyone can have an opinion which would be valid. That being said when such users abuse this then they got to back there sh#$% up. The Foro is never gonna be a pro level only forum, never has never will. Peeps are gonna say what they want so am I... And yeah man Louie Louie is enough, I like that jam.

yo man I've read your posts and they never made me feel like i got to call you out on your biz... yeah man I get it keep the peace etc... im all for that but not for haters..

peace

Thanks, lol. made me smile. [:D]

Stu, I agree people can expect blowback. That’s one of the things that’s so great about this Foro, there’s room, it’s a pretty forgiving place, even if it does get a little rough and tumble at times.

I don't think we will loose any members....I am not pro level at all...I would love to post my playing at some point....It's all good....

RobF. The power of the mind. One day your "hands' will EXPRESS what is in your heart"....If you work on it and BELIEVE.....I try not to compare myself to anyone...I know it hard not too, but, too me, if you play the most basic compas with HEART and SOUL...Ole....

Piwin -> RE: Rumba Percussion Track (Sep. 3 2020 21:50:24)

Wait...what?! There are people on here who are not professionals? WTF.... I've been tricked! What's next? Are you going to tell me that Ricardo really isn't Gerardo Nunez and that was all a lie too???

I'll just say that I think any guitarist on here who wants to play with others will be better off learning some rumba at some point. Not necessarily the intricacies of all the various fan patterns that you find with serious rumberos, but at least the basics. Kind of like sevillanas: people can bicker about whether it's "real" flamenco or not, but at some point you will have to play it. So, best to know how.

Piwin -> RE: Rumba Percussion Track (Sep. 4 2020 11:35:24)

Grisha has been putting out great material these last few weeks. A few days ago he did a breakdown of 2 rumba patterns:

I am looking forward to Grisha's next tutorial of Paco de Lucia's ‘Malaguena de Lecuona’. A piece I have wanted to learn for quite awhile. Thanks to Ricardo's tutorial as an impetus I have recently started working on Paco de Lucia's Guajira.

Cheers to both of you!

Honestly, this is a common freshman sentiment. Many folks, including me, are inspired by the fast scale of PDL, he beats Al Dimeola at his own game. Then we realize it’s a falseta of entre Dos Aguas. Then we realize rumba is but cheese cake and solea taranta buleria siguiriyas fangango are gourmet meat and potatoes. Suddenly we want to rail against the popularity and accessibility of the “easy” palos and champion our new found discovery of jondo. It’s a classic phase of early learning. Sadly some remain stuck there forever. Later learn about cante and that the best performers of this art are ALL long dead, etc. I have so many friends and colleagues (non Spaniards mainly) were in this boat. I had to suffer through their ignorant opinions as I patiently guided them or waited for them to discover things. In the case of rumba, just like fandango or buleria etc, it’s a whole world. Once you realized what you don’t know about it, your opinions change and you learn and grow. And it goes on until we become opinionated old geezers remembering the old days before everything turned to crap.

JasonM -> RE: Rumba Percussion Track (Sep. 4 2020 18:10:40)

Even Grisha plays fakemenco! [:D][:D]

Did anyone catch his other video where he said he uses hard tension strings and 3mm action? And he does burpees. Not human!

Grisha looks like a teenager on the thumbnail. No worries. As teenagers get older they start to play flamenco.

Mark2 -> RE: Rumba Percussion Track (Sep. 4 2020 18:46:13)

I guess that means your a skinny racist who can dance solea, bulerias, alegrias, etc.
