fevictor -> A bit of an eye opener (Feb. 28 2006 20:41:17)

So some friends came to visit me in this little beach town. He plays guitar, mainly rythm, Rumbas, some tangos. But anyways, he sings at a flamenco bar back home, and has quite the "flamenco voice", and a great ear for music. Last night we went to the beach, had a fire going, and I pulled out the guitar. I figured I could at least accompany a simple tangos. I have no problem at all with compas, but being the first time I ever tried to accompany, I was all over the place. He kept saying "listen for the changes", which I did, but I had a hard time figuring out when to change chords and what chord to change to. It was quite discouraging. Needless to say that I wil know pay ALOT more attention to chord progressions and the cante while listening to my CD's.

Has anyone else gone thru this? I got home last night quite bummend out, feeling that I don't have the "ear" for music. But this can also be learned, right?

Saludos

when discovering flamenco i quickly switched from guitar listening to "Cante only" listening.
In cante you get the melodies the chords AND all guitar flash you nead if its a good guitarist playing.
Now when i put a guitarsolo record on i get bored very fast.
theres something missing[:)]

I've hade that kind of experiences but you should be happy about it man, now you realize there's something you can work on to improve, no one is born playing like a god, and the ear can be trained, just don't get discouraged it's just a matter of practice, time and more experiences like the one you had.
