As fellow members seem to agree with what Mark Indigo attests, I suppose that you won´t really mind if I step out of this forum.

I would not want to be harassing people with unbearably faulty language, superseded by vastly superior, crappy translation.

All the best to the community!

I would mind, especially if my post led you to make that decision. I've been a member since 2007 and have never mentioned it before, because I have never felt it to be a problem, even if I can't follow what's being said. Like I said before, kudos to anyone writing in a second language. I think most people understand you, so don't worry about that. But you did ask for feedback on your translation....

Look, language is meant for communication. As far as English goes once you learn the rules some British guy with a stick up his butt designed a long time ago, you are free to do what you want to get the point across.

I could give a rats ass about rules when trying to communicate online. It’s hard enough as it is. So getting used to various personal writing styles is a necessity.

This is American usage. Steve Pinker defends it at length in The Language Instinct* (although I beg to remain unconvinced).

I just edited my post to take that bit out 'cos I thought maybe it was US usage. Talking to some American friends we discussed a lot of very similar phrases and sayings etc. with sometimes subtle differences. They said we are "One people divided by a common language"[:D]

I also understand that far from the way stuck up brits like to portray American English as having corrupted and degraded the language, in actual fact American English preserves some archaic, and therefore more "original" expressions. So could give a whatever is maybe the original way of saying what I hear and say as couldn't give a whatever?

really, there's no need to repeat that crap, please delete it.

As you wish.

At least some of the Americans on here should get that gif. Or so I've been told, by an ex of mine who was rather obsessed with that movie [8D].

But this is really just an excuse to let all hell break loose. I posted a gif to ask: how do you pronounce "gif"? [:D]

If it’s out there you can be sure Konstantin will find it! [:D]

Actually I wasn't looking to find this at all. It all happened because I doubted this 'Windows convertible' business and googled reviews of the same laptop to see if it really is what people are calling it; it made no sense to me. It was immediately clear that this was not a phrase in general use; people called it Microsoft convertible or laptop convertible or similar (i.e. referencing the hardware, correctly). However, the phrase did pop up in practically a single review article - that same one that turned out to have eerie structural similarity with the OP's translation. In that article, they did generally call it Microsoft convertible, but in a few paragraphs - same ones as the OP's - they randomly switched to 'Windows convertible.' BTW that article was posted on Jun 27 - almost a month before the trollish ask for an opinion here. Ricardo sniffed Der Mist out, but I stepped in it nicely. [8D]

I watched that movie about 50 times when I was a kid. I'm not saying I named my son after the main character but I'm not saying I didn't do that either...

Piwin -> RE: Language expertise needed (Aug. 4 2020 22:14:14)

Yup I watched it many times. Only recently learned that Mandy Patinkin played the Spanish dude. Andre the giant was played by Andre the giant.

I 100% predicted someone was going to be a smartass and say that. I don't consider her the main character. Piwin is much closer (I don't know who that is in the picture though).

When I watched Homeland I was like "hey, that guy looks familiar from something"... then I realized it [:D]
