Hi all

I was wondering if anyone could tell me of any well-known flamenco pieces that prominently feature the alzapua technique. (Preferably something by PDL). I kind of know what it sounds like from Graf-Martinez but it's nice to hear something in a song. There's a bit near the beginning of Chiquito on Live - One Summer Night (after a particularly dramatic flute moment!) that sounds like it could be alzapua.. but I'm not sure.

(It's about 1min8 secs in if anyone has it and would like to listen!)

How do you find this technique in terms of difficulty to master compared to other techniques, eg tremolo?

Isnt this a bit "cart before the horse" ??

You want PDL examples of a technique you cant identify yet??

You're just begging for confusion.

Trust the video. Go with that. Practice it.

Listen to PDL casually as you might normally do.
It will hit you one day. :) It will have more meaning
this way.[:D][8D]

No not really, I just think it helps to hear things in context. I only asked for PDL examples because most of my flamenco records are his! (I just want to listen at this stage, not attempt to copy!)

The intro to Almoraima is a classic Alzapua riff, although maybe not a good example of something typical. A lot of his bulerias have alzapua - try Cepa Andaluz, for example, for a typical very fast alzapua remate.

Its unmistakable once you get used to the sound. Difficult to say whether its easier/more difficult than anything else - depends on the person. Certainly it took me a while to get it, and the GF DVD helped a lot. It now feels comfortable but I can't get triplets as fast as PDL.
