She came out vary nice.

I did check your website to see if you had a price listed and sadly no I'm not in the market just curious. I know you put a lot of special detail in her.

Can you explain the nature of her name? I googled around some but no joy. Guessing a linguistic variation of eight pointed star?

Looking forward to the sound check after you have a few hours working the strings.

HR

ps. First day of PT and they hurt me ;) foot in bucket of ice water as I type. Aiming for an hour up and two or three seated in the shop tomorrow. It's showtime!

Thank you gents. I will put it up on my website soon, I was going to ask $5000 but probably $4500 with the current economy.

Najmat means "stars" in Arabic.

I'm hoping to record tomorrow, my injury is much less impressive than getting stomped by a moose. I was pushing little pieces of wood with sharp corners on a sanding block and they dug into my thumb right where it hits the strings [:D]

jalalkun -> RE: Carved/stippled headstock, new guitar underway (Jul. 2 2020 12:27:46)

Najmat...you're a genius. You could also say "Nojoom" (another plural form), but Najmat kinda fits it perfectly.

Also, the carved headstock looks stunning. it reminds me of my own headstock, it has a little carved and stippled part as well. so I have kind of a soft spot for it. is it for sale? [:D]

Andy Culpepper -> RE: Carved/stippled headstock, new guitar underway (Jul. 2 2020 17:10:22)

Jalal, interesting, glad to know the name doesn't sound weird to an Arabic speaker.
Thanks for the kind words! This one actually is for sale!

Here is the video. I decided to try a new brand of strings, Knobloch QZ Actives Medium Tension. They are really bright with nice articulation but bring out a little more sustain than I'm used to for flamenco. I think they would sound really good after being broken in for a few days.

So beautiful. I wish i lived in Europe.

If I acquire anything from Europe, there's considerable shipping, customs and our version of VAT on the total cost landed to Australia. My only option is to find an Australian maker, but I don't have enough info about who I should approach as the makers I'm aware of make classical guitars.

I once self assigned a photojournalism project on guitar making and spent three fantastic, mind blowing months visiting Richard Howell as he made one of his Fleta homages, No.271 in 1993. What a wonderful person. There's something warm and friendly about luthiers. Must be the meditative and fulfilling qualities of crafting art.

I wish he made flamencos.

A breathtaking beauty... so much craftmanschip... I bow in deep respect for that :-)

Totally missed these posts! Thanks for the kind words Marz and Schieper.

This guitar is currently up on the GSI website if you want to gaze on some higher-quality photos: https://www.guitarsalon.com/store/p6173-andy-culpepper-quotnajmatquot.html

Sounds really good, Andy. Your playing and the guitar. Nice design.

Gracias, Ethan! Hoping to make more of this style in the future.

Right on! You guys should be encouraged to search different designs and fan brace patterns to accomplish greatness in guitar building.

I think most of you are traditionalists and have a firm foundation in the Spanish idiom. As you know I'm a strict traditionalist myself.

I love what you are doing and I hope you continue to supply the world with your art.

Tom Blackshear -> RE: Carved/stippled headstock, new guitar underway (Dec. 20 2020 21:11:05)

hi Andy,

I may have missed this but did you sell this guitar yet? Just curious about the market draw.

Andy Culpepper -> RE: Carved/stippled headstock, new guitar underway (Dec. 22 2020 3:37:13)

Thanks Tom, yes, GSI sold it.
