I'm going to replace the machine heads on my nylon strung guitar ( 3 to a plate).
I've heard that when changing strings, it's best to change one at a time to maintain tension on the guitar.
My question is, surely you have to remove ALL strings to replace the machine heads....does this cause a problem?

Dont worry. You can change all the strings at a time. These sayings are by people not knowing.

I have always remove all six strings. Allows me to do some fret board and tuner cleaning and maintenance. I agree with Anders, its a myth.

Some “experts” will insist that you must always change one string at a time. A well known luither and friend in San Francisco from years ago (Segovia, Carlos Montoya and Sabicas were some of his customers) named Harmon Satterlee answered a group of “experts” on this topic. The “experts” went on and on about why you must change one string at a time. How do you clean the fret board? No answer.

Harmon stated, “How do you think we build guitars? With the strings on”? I enjoy “experts”. [:D]

Your ability to argue a point does not mean that you are correct. Let the “experts” enjoy themselves. After all, their advice is free and worth every penny!
