Disclaimer:

What there is in the works in Spain is not even close to a general basic income. It is just an upgrade of social welfare.

Sorry.

Not sure what the point is here? BoJo in Britain caught it too and we have prison-camp lockdown.

Sweden's laissez faire approach to the Coronavirus is being emulated in the Western Hemisphere by Nicaragua. While other Central American countries are observing "stay-at-home" and "social distancing" advice, Nicaraguans are advised to go to the beach, attend sporting events, and generally mix as always.

The dictatorial president, Daniel Ortega, has not been seen or heard from in public for a month, and his vice president, and wife, Rosario Murillo has been making all governmental announcements. This has led some to question whether Ortega himself might have the Coronavirus, or perhaps be dead. Nicaragua is the second poorest country in the Western Hemisphere after Haiti, and its health system is precarious as it is.

I think Nicaragua has only had nine recorded cases. Many countries did not lockdown or start social distancing until the cases were in the hundreds or even thousands, so I don't think they are doing much different. Will be interesting to see how it develops though.

The figures put out by the Nicaraguan government cannot be trusted. Human Rights Watch issued a report on the situation in Nicaragua that stated there is no comprehensive testing program, and some "suspicious" cases that doctors have referred to a government testing center have not been confirmed either way and the results are unknown.

Ah okay, I guess that makes sense. On a related note, I see Ortega has reappeared.
