Hi,

I'm a relatively experienced electric guitarist just coming to the world of Flamenco having discovered it in Tokyo (!).

I'm seeing Juan Martin twice this week - a performance tonight with his Dance Trio, and a workshop on Friday evening.

I bought "Flamenco Explained" after reading about it on this forum - it looks like a great resource.

I shall be looking for a teacher soonish.

R.

Welcome!

Welcome Robin. Great to see another JM fan [;)]

Interesting to know how you get on with an electric background.

ps: Many years ago (well over 10) there was a type of foro war (no one died but it did get heated[:)]) - sides arguing the contribution of JM. Needless to say all much more civilised these days. Would be great if you let us know how it goes with JM. I haven't seen him for several years but him and his wife were always most welcoming and helpful. Enjoyable evenings for sure.

Hi Nigel,

I wouldn't go so far as to say I was a fan - I only heard of him this week!

His book seems to be widely recommended so I bought it, and it was pure coincidence that I have the opportunity to see him twice this week.

I saw the Trio performance last night and, well tbh, I was underwhelmed. It was in City Varieties Theatre, Leeds and the experience was not at all like the intimate Tokyo (!) clubs in which I was introduced to Flamenco. His accompaniment of the singer + dancer seemed better than his solo guitar playing.

A quick snippet from Tokyo:

As an electric player with no finger nails, I'm expecting that my left hand will be much more advanced than my right hand!

I'm looking forward to the workshop, and meeting the Flamenco de Leeds group and hope to find a teacher soonish.

Cheers,

R.

As an ex-electric player myself, you will find the right hand challenging. Flamenco uses nearly all your fingers and the right hand (in this case) is much more of a rhythm section.

That said, your left hand will think it’s got drunk and accidentally joined the marines.

I was waiting patiently for the rest [8|]

Anyway Robin I can imagine it was good in Japan. Seems to be more enthusiasm for flamenco over there than here in Spain [:-]

Heh, sorry - it's just one of those "live" photos that iPhones do, converted to a short video clip.

It was a lovely evening, and the guitarist was very good.
