Going to Granada first week in April. What’s good for music and food? Is there any point going to the caves or have they completely turned into tourist traps? Is La Plateria still a real peña or has it turned into a tablao?

There’s a place called El Tabanco in the Albaicin http://www.eltabanco.com/ that has shows.

Here’s another place on Calle Pintor Zuloaga that I just discovered because they recently posted a vid of someone playing a guitar I made about five years ago. The tapas look pretty good in their pictures, and it appears they have music, or at least informal jams. Here’s the link to their Facebook page (called Tavora Zuloaga):

Peña La Plateria is the same as always so unless you are a member, you can only go to watch flamenco (usually very good) on a Thursday and there will be tourists.

Sacromonte hasn't changed much either and it really depends on who is playing where and at what time, so follow your ears and you might get lucky. Again, there will be tourists. At the top, the cave museum has some great shows outside in the summer, so check the schedule (April may be too early). These are mostly tourist-free and the standard is high.

Also in Sacromonte, La Chumbera Auditorio Municipal also has some big names (going to see Dani de Morón and Antonio Reyes in a couple of weeks) and is around €8 entry.

Also, keep an eye on Eshavira's Facebook page and blog for shows there. Usually around €8 including a drink.

El Tabanco (as mentioned by Rob) is very intimate and that sometimes puts the tourists off, so worth a look. Never been to the other place he mentioned but I'll check it out.

I think the video at Tavora Zuloaga was shot a couple of days ago. Seeing it really makes me miss Granada.
