NorCalluthier -> Rubner tuners---or your favorites? (Sep. 12 2019 23:51:00)

Hello All

A student showed up with a set of Rubner machine heads, and I was quite impressed with the quality---made in Germany after all...At $127 with ball bearings on the rollers they seem like a bargain as well. Anybody used them?

I've been using Sloanes from Stew Mac, but with two ball bearings on each roller they come in at 180gms a set. Alessi F6's are about half that weight, but both brands are around double the price of the Rubners.

So what's your favorite tuners?

Cheers,

Brian

I have used Rubners, and still do use their entry level ones on my beginner level guitars.
I recently moved to Schaller Grandtune for my higher end models, as i feel the aesthetics of them is much nicer then the rubners.

I like Rubners. I have them on my 92 Jose Romero. Though they are on the heavy side they work with precision. My favorite are Alessi. Very pretty, good workmanship, very precise. The F1 are around 200 euro. I used to like Gotoh but they are expensive for stamped out plates. There high end stuff sells between 200 and 300 USD. With that money, you get way more out of Alessi, all hand made. My 2 cents.

Hello Steve,

The Schaller Grandtune certainly look interesting. I don't immediately see a source for them here in the US. Do you get them direct from Schaller in Germany?

Cheers,

Brian
