As i said before. It is all free, if they are intressted there is no problem becoming a registerd user. The Moderator of this site gives very good service and take care of us all in a very good way[:)]

If it dosent effect you SImon, incidents like this have opened our eyes to a good reason to get ride of it. We hardly ever use it anyway.

Oh Duende, nice words youve chosen there, slimer! HAHA (joke) I voted for the second option. Its no problem either, to first have a look at the foro...ooops! I just checked that. Guest even have no access to other areas! In this case, there must be a public area! A guest must have the oportunity to make up his mind about the foro imo, and we should keep it as neutral as possible, means guest should have "free choice". The front/homepage only is not the best way to make up his mind, its the worst way. Another point, the guest area is also a great way to communicate for US the members with the "outside" world. Flo, the incidents have not much to do with "being allowed to post". Someone who wants to make trouble can also do it AFTER registering [8\|]

It's difficult to say, Simon. Actually, we haven't had that many problems on it. Most of the posters have been honest, decent people making a casual enquiry about Flamenco for a college project or where to go in Spain to see some real Flamenco etc. Also I believe that Google can pick up these public pages, but not the Member only.. (Am I right on that?) If so, then it gives the Forum more exposure to newcomers searching on the Net. If we go that way then I think it's important to "clean up" this Public Forum from trolling nutters by deleting these abusive posts and follow ups, because somebody reading those threads may think it looks like a Lavatory wall and be tempted to spray paint their own comments. Interestingly enough Flamenco-Teacher is subscription only. You can read stuff, but not post without a valid email address. Also I think we should take more care where we post our own thread starters. There is no reason to post on the Public Forum unless you want to reach folk outside the forum. I think this Forum should be used mainly for incoming, plus replies. I'll have to think about it... cheers Ron

I vote nada. When serious people come you can tell because they register, that's the kind of people you want to hear comments from because obviously they have no problem with being honest, critical and constructive. It's a waste of time and space reading and having the comments of people who you don't really know... And by allowing guests to just read you lose the community sence of the forum which is one of the things I really like about this forum... Plus I always forgot to login at public areas and my post stays as guest[8D] so, that's my thought, no guest, NADA.

Leave the public areas but require a member ID in order to post to them (or any other). I was saying to ToddK the other day that I've always thought of this foro as a sort of refuge from the glut of trashed forums out there. The climate of this forum is bar-none the most civil, friendly and generally helpful of the lot. People here genuinely are cool with one another and friendships have been forged and fostered here. Simon, it's truly a difficult thing to measure but the general atmosphere here is exactly what an online community of adults sharing a common interest/pursuit/passion should be. You have all walks of life with all levels and specialties represented here. Everybody, even when they disagree (if not outright argue), still get along and pat each other on the back when whatever small dispute dissipates. Most people here are forum vets to a large extend and have come here to find friendly compadres rather than constant advisaries and nameless anonymous snipers. Keep the public areas readable so that others may see how things are done here but require the membership and vetting process already in play before anyone can post in those same areas. This will also keep the pages in the public area open to the robots to crawl and index the site so that it shows up on Google. - Jamey

I voted for number 3. I´m radical[8D] Actually, my preferences would be to skip the member versus public discussion, to let everyone (incl. guests) read everything, and only let members post. That would be the easyest.

I voted for 2 as I found this forum as a guest. Anders has a very good point though. Bottom line for me is: I think readers need to see the content so they can get a feel for the place. Writers should be controlled by membership from a genuine email account to keep the dickheads out. This forum is one of the few genuine places on the Internet, it needs some protection to ensure it's future. Andy.

I agree with Anders. Read it all but can't post without permission/memership. Most boards are that way. I think for some people that are lurking, they see the members and other non viewable areas as sort of a club/clique/vip thing where you need to feel like you have to be special to get "in". At least that is how I felt about it when I first discovered this site. On the other hand I understand why it would make newcomers curious enough to sign up. Ricardo

I voted for 2. That's a very common way of doing forums these days. It does not restrict google from searching the pages (to Ron's point) as guest are permitted to read. And while Ron is right we didn't have too much problem with it, we avoid any potential future problem and a need to fix it in a hurry cause someone is spamming us. 3 is too extreme and counter productive. The point is to share information about flamenco, not restrict it. Allowing all to read is the best way to get more readership and participation. Once you do it, there is no point in having a guest forum vs a member forum, and what Anders said applies. Since registration is free and easy, requiring it is a small filter to ensure only serious posts are done at no effort to the moderators.

I voted 3, but I don't think this is the lions den or anything like that. I choose 3 because anyone that can have access could download and use material from the forum and copyrighted or not it could be used in a way the autor doesn't want to. Maybe it's a little paranoid, you don't actually have to use it in every section, but every topic with download material should have it.
