henrym3483 -> a trip to Huelva (Aug. 12 2018 12:29:34)

Hi all,

Just wondering, anyone know of any good schools or recommended teachers to go to in Huelva? Im planning a two week trip to the Jerez-Sevilla area, and always wanted to spend a bit more time, than the 48hrs i had in the past in spent in or around Huelva, picking up my guitar from Anders Eliasson.

Specifically looking to get opportunities to learn some of the specific variations of Fandangos in the area and the cante accompaniment for it.

Any input appreciated.

I lived in Huelva for 8 months, 5 years ago. While there I had lessons from a few people. This guy, Joaquin Brito, was the most consistent. He’s recently become involved in teaching flamenco at the university there so.... He was the resident teacher at the local music shop at the time. I only have a Facebook connection though. ‘Dmg Brt Joaki’

Here he is too -

...couldn't get the link to work until I set my keyboard to Spanish (ISO), copied the link and pasted it into Safari. Then it worked great.

I have a friend from Córdoba who has a summer home in Huelva, where he is at the moment. He says to contact the Peña Flamenca de Huelva: https://www.facebook.com/penaflamenca.dehuelva/

But he also says there’s won’t be any activity at the Peña in August.

Hope this helps.

Towards the end of my visit I had lessons from Rafael Martinez de Nerva who seems very knowledgable. Also his partner is a singer, Carmen Benjumea. They have YouTube videos and info like this http://huelvabuenasnoticias.com/2015/02/17/carmen-benjumea-y-rafael-martinez-de-nerva-actuan-en-la-pena-de-la-orden/
I also have the number he used at the time

My friend Pepe, whom I mentioned previously, writes further:

quote:

These tracks are:

01 Estilo Rengel- (1).m4a
02 Estilo Encinasola-Pandero-Tradicional-(2).m4a
03 Estilo Santa Barbara-(1).m4a
04 Estilo Almonaster-(5).m4a
05 Estilo Alosno-(2).m4a
06 Estilo Toná De Trilla (2).m4a
07 Estilo Alosno-(6)Distintos Cantaores.m4a
08 Estilo San Bartolomé.m4a
09 Estilo El Cerro Del Andévalo, Valverde, Calañas, Cabezas (5)
10 Estilo Tonás De La Puebla-(3).m4a
11 Estilo El Comía,Pepe La Nora-(2).m4a
12 Estilo J. Rebollo, A. Rengel-(2).m4a
13 Estilo Niño León.m4a
14 Estilo Paco Isidro, Huelva, Rogita, Huelva-(4).m4a

Is there enough interest for me to post them here? And can one, in fact, post .m4as? Clearly I can’t do so without asking the original artists, but I don’t mind doing that if enough people want it.

I'm interested! I'm going to Huelva on Thursday, as it happens.

Paul, thanks very much for the kind offer, that would be great to get an idea of the variations going on.

José Luís de la Paz has now very kindly given me permission to post here the tracks of the now-deleted album Besana, by Eduardo Garrocho and himself. He says:

quote:

Ese disco se hizo casi como una recopilación y se trabajó mucho en tratar de hacer los estilos de manera muy tradicional.

So I shall be posting these in the Audio & Video Uploads section, under the heading Fandangos de Huelva: the 14 basic styles.
