oc chuck -> Malaguena falseta? (Jun. 24 2018 21:38:01)

I have several transcriptions of Malaguena (mostly Ernesto Lecuona).
I am looking for notation or tabs of this section or similar.

Malaguena of Ruben Romero on u tube from 2:38 to 3:18.
Kind of a improvised melodic line that some performers use but not all.

Having trouble picking it up by ear.

Thanks. BTW, Ruben Romero, Romanza, painting of guitar and
desert on cover. utube thumbnail.

Post the link to the YouTube video.

Section from 2:38 to 3:18.

rombsix -> RE: Malaguena falseta? (Jun. 25 2018 15:25:24)

Sure thing, man - that's super doable. Of note, there are two guitarists playing during that passage from 2:38 to 3:18 and I will show you how to play the main guitar section. Just give me a couple of minutes and I'll have a video up for you. Cheers!

Great lesson. Now can we learn the real malagueña?

You'll have to do the teaching on that one. I only do fake-agueña. LOL

Ricardo -> RE: Malaguena falseta? (Jun. 25 2018 20:35:54)

Or the more technically advanced version (not surprising projects as more emotional as well)

Awesome, Ramzi, you went above and beyond.
I'm halfway through and will finish tomorrow,
(memorizing, that is).

Thank you.

And thanks for the other Malaguena vids.

Yes, I do know and appreciate the difference.
However at almost 70 years of age I need a little
more help gettin' the chicks.

Leñador -> RE: Malaguena falseta? (Jun. 26 2018 18:21:00)

Ah well any guitar playing will help that along. I’ve been dating out of my league since my teenage years. [:D]

I think your league is much broader than you expect, Lenny. You're a great guy! [:)]

Leñador -> RE: Malaguena falseta? (Jun. 26 2018 22:16:46)

You're too kind, and a hell of a guy yourself! [:D]

Chicks just tell me I need to practice more

Piwin -> RE: Malaguena falseta? (Jun. 27 2018 1:12:20)

Chicks just tell me: "meh, that's nice. But do you know how to play Wonderwall?"

Or better yet: "Oh cool. Is that a Rodrigo and Gabriela song?" [8D]

Haha female guitar players can be so rude.

You don’t keep a few girl tricks in your back pocket???

I first ran across this video several years ago. It is my favorite Malagueña. His picado runs sound like machine gun. Amazing!

At 1:27 Wow just wow. I never expected this. Artificial harmonics in flamenco?

Here's another use of them by Sabicas (2:43):

devilhand -> RE: Malaguena falseta? (Jan. 18 2020 16:23:40)

Artificial harmonics done to perfection. Mr Emmannuel learned it from Chet Atkins. I'm pretty sure Sabicas is influenced by Mr Atkins too.

I wonder. My hunch is that he was more likely influenced by the classical repertoire, where it's a fairly common technique. Perhaps some of our friends here who are more knowledgeable about Sabicas's life could enlighten us.

BTW, I was just googling around and found out that, apparently, what Tommy Emmanuel is doing here is called "harp harmonics". I always thought it was "arp harmonics". You know, as in "arpeggio" [:D] lol

I didn't know this name (but it makes sense, if odd)

Piwin -> RE: Malaguena falseta? (Jan. 18 2020 19:40:32)

My impression was that when people say harp harmonics it's not so much about where the harmonics are played, but rather it's about that PA pattern where P plays harmonics and A regular notes. That's why I thought it was "arp" because you're going up and down the chord with that PA pattern. Dunno.

Oh, OK. Then I just wanted to point out that [I don't know what I am talking about this morning]...

not artificial as devilhand said

Really? I thought natural harmonic just meant open string and artificial meant fretted. Is that not it?

Scheisse. You are right. I don't know what's wrong with me this morning. I'll go lie down... [&o] [8|]
