¡Ole! I always like Cepero accompanying bulerias. Juanito Villar is great!

Cool how Cepero's first falseta starts off quoting the Russian song Очи чёрные (Ochi Chornye = Dark Eyes).

I've stated it before in previous threads, but for my money Paco Cepero is the greatest accompanying tocaor bar none. I particularly like his earlier work as an accompanying tocaor, around 1969-70. Marvelous stuff. His later work, such as "Morrongo" accompanying Santiago Donday, is great as well. Paco Cepero has always had the touch, no doubt.

He is even better than that. Santiago was in no condition to make a record. Someone found the money and called Cepero. He organised everything in the studio, dragged the cante out of Santiago and cleaned everything up. The CD should be called Paco Cepero with Santiago Donday. It is a tour de force, but of Paco.

At least somebody managed to record Santiago (a real legend in Cádiz).

I accompanied him once, por seguiriyas, but he was so drunk that he fell off the chair in the middle[:D]

I totally agree, Morante. My purpose in bringing up Morrongo was to illustrate that Paco still has what it takes.

Morante's foro account sufrió un hackeo [:D]

It's funny you mentioned it, I have noticed some Slavic flavour in Cepero's toque before. Do you think he is inspired by очи черные or it's just coincidence?

kitarist -> RE: asi se canta, asi se toca (Apr. 21 2018 22:20:13)

Well he is quoting a whole 4-line verse note for note, so can't be a coincidence.

On the solo guitarra side, that falseta is part of his bulerias "Suenos de Jerez" on the album "Amuleto".

There's some subtle connections between slavic music and flamenco with the gypsy influence in both cultures.
