Inglés -> Beginner's question: holding the guitar in place (Jan. 7 2018 15:56:05)

I've had one lesson and have been working on what my teacher asked me too, simple picado scales. Concentrating on keeping my right hand in a good position, I find I need to take my right arm off the guitar as I move up to the 4th, 5th and 6th strings, so my left hand has to hold the guitar. However, I am also trying to keep my left hand in a good flamenco position with the thumb staying on the back and the wrist forward - as opposed to my natural, rock-influenced position where the thumb peeks over the top and the palm holds the neck in place. The problem is I don't see how the two are compatible - if my left hand is barely touching the neck and my right arm isn't touching the body, it just falls over to the left. What am I doing wrong? How am I supposed to both keep my right hand fingers at the right angle to strings and also keep my left hand in the correct flamenco position?
