Greetings, I'm new to this forum. Would like to seek help in finding a flamenco guitar teacher in Singapore. Thanks in advance.

No problem, just tell me your coordinates and I give you telephonenumbers of these players I know who are next to you. ehm. To Singapore is just around 10.000miles. If its not a problem for you, you could come here one time in a week and take a lesson for 2hours. [;)] Are you joking??[:-] If you cant find a teacher. try to learn with video DVD. There are some good ones on the market now. Check, gerhard graf martinez,gerardo nunez encuentro DVD. I think Oscar Herrero is good too. But I´ve only saw one of his books. It was good.

Nicky ignoire our friend - he has a funny sense of humour (but is a great flamenco guitarist ). Several of your islander colleagues are here often and I'm sure they can help. Anyway welcome. ps can you still get chilli crab in Singapore where the next one is still running around your feet? Perhaps not it was a while ago

My friend has a flamenco teacher. I'll ask him for you, or maybe he'd just reply when he sees this thread. Bobby who teaches at Yamaha Music School at Plaza Singapura is also know as one of the few who know what they're doing. [:D] Lastly, Dr Larry Francis teaches at Tomas Music as far as I know. Haven't had the chance to meet him though.

I don't so much live here as deposit this horrid mass of biological slag that is my body here. Singapore holds my body as would a casket. My thoughts usually settle in orbit around Mars and my personality is said to originate from the next dimension over. [;)] I don't know if Bobby is still at Yamaha but last I checked he worked Wednesdays at the branch at Plaza Singapura. That was also the only day he taught, so I couldn't take up classes there. Tomas knows some good local flamenco guitarists, and yes Dr. Larry Francis is there. Be prepared to be fairly indepent if you want to learn Flamenco locally, since the scene is new here. Catching though, give it about a dedcade more. See you abouts.

The last I remembered, Dr Larry Francis could only give lessons on Mondays at 8am! LOL What a great timing! [:D]

Hi guys, thanks for the input. I suppose most pple here are mostly self taught? Any good beginner books to start with?

As you have classical guitar background, I strongly recommend the Graf-Martinez 2-volume method books. You might want to consider getting the DVD version of it as well, makes things more visual and easily understandable. But I wouldn't recommend getting the DVDs instead of the book as the notation on the screen isn't legible and it's inconvenient reading the tabs off your computer and away from the DVD. You either get both the DVDs and books, or else just the books. The books come with a useful CD anyway. Good luck!
