I just discovered the "hammering" thumb technique on nunez video.
Uptill now I played my thumb more in a classical way and let it fall from one string to another. I'm still practising but this technique sure sounds more flamenco and the wristmovement adds a lot of speed.
I can't understand all the things gerardo says, so does anyone have any advice on how to get this technique right ?

Now that's some good advice[8|]

It's tough at first to aim the thumb so that it whips against the strings the right way. Just take your time. Once you have that and some alzapua down pick out a new buleria to learn, I promise it'll be more fun than you've ever had with the guitar [8D]

sorry. I would also like to know what he says about the thumb.

I´ve been doing that hammer/bouncy thing for 3-4 months now and i think i get better tone for flamenco. I try to do a fall/hammer bounce combination when going over 4-5 string, arpeggio type things.

I havent seen the DVD for a while, but as far as I remember he doesn´t say much, he shows how to do things. That´s what is so good in this video, that Gerardo is VERY good at showing things. What he sais is (as far as I remember) something to do with seperating the notes (hammer) versus less seperation of notes (rest stroke) The whole idea is to get a tecnical background and then later on use it in the music. The hammer thumb, is very flamenco, and I try to use it as much as I can, but of course, when you are playing fast, it´s impossible, and when you are playing thumb arpeggios, rest strokes may give you a better feeling of playing chords.

The best part in the DVD is where he (in solea por Bulerias) explains the difference between Pi (thumb index) technique and Alzapua. For him it´s all Alzapua. A lot of people with Alzapua troubles should work that. Learn to play falsetas with both techniques[;)] It really helps
