Mic: Lewitt DGT 650 (this is a USB mic)
Cam: Logitech Brio (this is a webcam)
Software: Windows 10 camera app (comes with Win 10)

I am testing the above setup, so I recorded some videos with different settings and I was hoping to get your feedback.

4K at 30 fps: https://youtu.be/4BWZ5kJb-l0

I did NOT edit the videos or the audio files at all. Just uploaded the raw files directly to YouTube.

What are your thoughts/impressions? Which one of the four formats do you prefer, if any? [:D][8D]

Looks superb in 4k. Can see woodgrain well. Sounds fine too - without hearing in-room to compare, hard to criticise.

Very, very few people will be browsing on a 4K device so 1440p is fine and 1080p is your safest option.

On my kit, Youtube scales up and down quite easily and seems to default to 1080 anyway (at least for me using Chrome).

Doing some more testing. The picture-in-picture ones are done automatically through YouCam 7 from CyberLink.

Thoughts?

Update on this - for Windows users, a new updated came out on Windows 10 that basically destroyed the 60 FPS functionality of the Brio. I was finally able to bypass that by using OBS as the recording software. This was a MAJOR breakthrough because I was able to get very decent quality with very small file sizes. In the past, with the Win 10 camera app, a one minute video would be 500 MB in size. Now, one minute with OBS is only 50 MB and the quality is more or less similar. Check it out...

Watch this in 1080p at 60 FPS in YouTube.

I was having a lot of issues editing audio/video using CyberLink software with my current setup, so I've changed over to Adobe Premiere Rush which seems to be doing a better job and is pretty affordable.

Recording using the Windows 10 native camera app with the Lewitt DGT 650 USB mic as the audio input, the Logitech Brio webcam as the video input (at 1080p with 60 FPS through the camera app), then encoding with constant frame rate at 60 FPS the raw file using Handbrake, then editing audio / video (mainly transitions and to raise the volume) via Rush, and finally exporting as MP4.

This file was 103 MB in size.

Sounds good Amigo. I looked up that mic and it says you can plug it directly into your phone. Have you tried it? I bought one of those IOS mini condensers by Shure a while back as I didn’t want to fuss with syncing up audio and video. Not too fond of the sound quality though. Now a days most interfaces seem to support iOS and Android anyway.

Please watch this video in 1440p and let me know what you think of the image quality (and of the sound).

And this one...

I'm no expert with this kind of thing, but to me it sounds and looks great.
I'm not sure how to watch in 1440p though. The highest option youtube gives me on the video is 1080p.

rombsix -> RE: Logitech Brio + Lewitt DGT 650 (Mar. 27 2020 23:52:35)

I guess it may depend on your browser, device, internet speed, etc. But I just reviewed the videos on 1080p and they look reasonable that way too, so you're seeing something close to what it would be in 1440p. Thanks for checking these out, man!

rombsix -> RE: Logitech Brio + Lewitt DGT 650 (Apr. 3 2020 9:18:40)

Testing yet ANOTHER audio / video setup. I think it's definitely getting there. I have the background improved now (the black curtains), and I think the mic placement is fine. I may just go with this wider frame so most of me is visible rather than just a close-up of the guitar. I decided to invest in Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe Audition because all other software I've been using has been a worthless piece of **** thus far LOL since I stopped using Audition and Sony Vegas, so hopefully this means I can tweak sound and video a bit through the software after the raw footage is captured (even though honestly I think the sound is OK raw except for the volume being a bit too low). I also may invest in some better lighting because I have uneven lighting now and the light towards my left is a bit too bright perhaps.

What do y'all think? (Watch it in 1440p for max quality). I honestly would prefer to have 4K or so in 60 FPS but my webcam doesn't allow that, and now that I've seen that 4K-ish quality is much better than 1080p (my webcam only allows 60 FPS on 1080p), I'd rather go with better image quality and 30 FPS rather than poor image quality and 60 FPS.

Next I'll start going back to remembering how to use Audition and figure out how to use Premiere Pro (which I expect will be similar to Sony Vegas). Olé! 😀

rombsix -> RE: Logitech Brio + Lewitt DGT 650 (Apr. 3 2020 14:23:42)

Did some editing of the audio with Audition, but it seems Premiere Pro is not properly compatible with my current graphics driver, so the rendered video lost image quality. More fine-tuning required...

JasonM -> RE: Logitech Brio + Lewitt DGT 650 (Apr. 3 2020 16:58:07)

Apparently even on 1080p and above , youtube will still compress the audio to 256 AAC although I’ve heard that they are now using the OGG compression which is higher quality than aac or mp3. Also for 4K video at 60fps requires some serious throughput with the latest hardware.

Sounds and looks good to me. Cool chords btw!

rombsix -> RE: Logitech Brio + Lewitt DGT 650 (Apr. 5 2020 0:05:35)

I steamed the curtains to take the wrinkles out of them LOL and I also "hemmed" them because they were too long so now they just make a bit of contact with the floor. [:D]

Piwin -> RE: Logitech Brio + Lewitt DGT 650 (Apr. 5 2020 11:20:55)

The curtains look good! [:D]

Getting better, and now using a green screen to key out the background and make it all black. First I was using two green screens side by side which failed LOL so now found a way to use just one and it's working.

Also now recording both plugged in (built-in guitar electronics which are a mic and a piezo under the saddle, blended) AND using the cardioid setting of the DGT 650 USB mic (to do so, I am now using the "break-out box" that comes with the mic which effectively is a tiny audio interface), so the sound is fuller, thicker.

All the effects you hear (reverb, compression, EQ) are part of the bundled software Control Center that comes with the DGT mic, so I honestly REALLY recommend this mic. It's a very reasonably priced mic for that it offers, and this is a SUPER easy to use, practical, setup which is very minimalistic but gets the job done. A lazy flamenco guitarist's way to do things. LOL

I'm making progress...
